First off if this is in the wrong section I apologize and please feel free to move it accordingly.
I have recently found myself really getting into more MilSim/Scenario rather than rec. games. And I know good props are hard to achieve. My question is if I were to start making higher grade props for sale or rental would there be any interest? I've always loved making realistic and detailed things. I have ideas for everything from actual weapons caches, rpg's, stingers, AT4's, and IED's. All the way to mock narcotics and fake money. I really just wanted to see if it would be worth my time and effort. I'd love to bring events around here to the next level. Thanks for any input.

To be honest, I'm not sure how many people would be willing to pay for props. Many of the event hosts already have props that they've made or acquired themselves. Perhaps if your offerings were relatively cheap and unique, two things that don't usually go together. I do think that people would benefit from any drawings or instructions you could produce on how to build specific props. For example, you could create a thread on props and then post instructions on how to make them. Obviously, not a money making venture, but it would be useful for a lot of folks. If you're really interested in advancing milsim games you should shoot a message to Mosin and start up a dialogue with him. He's really the one event host in Michigan devoted to adding complexity and depth to milsim events.

Yeah I agree with ya. I was also thinking about MilSim players themselves. Personally I don't want to shell out over $400 for an AT4. But to complete an impression a nice detailed realistic weight one made from metal and at a fraction the price. How could you pass that up haha. Again I'm just checking interest at this point.

I've been building a few different parts for quite a while. I've got 3 working prototypes, but I'm unable to get the price point down to something more reasonable to offer them commercially. The problem, as Gimp pointed out is that even if you do make these, there's a good chance the guys your selling to can make the. as well. If you want to talk, I'm all for collaboration.

Sounds good to me homie. And you know me, I'd more than likely end up trading props for airsoft stuff rather than cash anyways haha. And the way I look at it is if I can produce something realistic at a good price/trade it would save people time. I'll be the first to admit that if I can get something cheap enough and save myself time I'd usually do it. I've just had some ideas I've been piecing together. As for price I work at a machine shop so I can usually get metal scraps and wood scraps for next to nothing if anything.

Personally, price point is the biggest thing for me. The biggest thing to date we've spent money on is our tourniquet collection, which right now is somewhere to the tune of $500.
If you were able to make programmable props (like a suitcase with a buzzer and a code to deactivate it) or anything where serious manipulation is going to happen then I'm interested at the right price. Consumables and basics like C4, TNT, IEDs, Boneyard weapons, and costume stuff we purchase in house.
If you wanted to field any of your props at an event we're putting on PM me and we can talk.
