The G&G is the way to go if you want to polarstar it.
I own the A&K SR-25 and it's the longest gun I own and it's also the lightest. The body is really nice, personally I got a blank receiver but I know most come with zombie killer trades. Out of the box mine shot nicely and felt very solid. Also if you're keeping it an AEG its better to have the elongated gearbox for better air output and can handle high stress springs. It can also take normal hop up units which I liked because I use a ProWin. I guess this could be a good and bad thing is mag compatibility, it will take pretty much all SR25 mags but they are hard to find.
Also the A&K is half the price of the g&g.

Would there be any upgrades you would recommend, other than a TBB and hop up.I have always heard mixed opinions of A&K and want to make sure I get a solid performer, even if I have to upgrade a little.

Well everything is pretty much V.2 GB compatible with the exception of the piston, cylinder and the gearsets. But there are company's who manufacture those specific parts to the elongated gearbox. But upgrades in general aren't hard to find.
I would do general maintenance on it such as a re-shim and re grease. My gearbox personally came gunked up with stock grease. Also If you feel up too it polish the piston track. I tend to find that makes my gearbox sound and run smoother.
I know some already come with a high torque motor and some dont so I would check into getting a high torque motor. Also sorbo pad is something I would really recommend.
And A&K always gets mixed reviews because they produce a lot of lemons but I got mine and its solid. Im waiting to get mine back from being upgraded but stock it was just fine.
As far as I know evike is still haveing a sale on the SR25k which is just the carbine version. And if you want to get close to the standard sr25 look just throw a full stock on it and there's really only minor differences in the front end (ris, barrel.) But the gas block is nice if you want to put an authentic sr25 suppressor on it because it should accept it.

Upgrades aren't easy to find in all reality. I've been looking for SR25 "High-Torque" gears for a while, you can find High-Speed (which for the life of me I have no idea why someone would want to put high-speed gears into an SR25 unless you make a franken-build for high trigger response). SHS used to make some for the SR25, but I haven't seen any in stock at all as of late (so there's the possibility SHS stopped making them or at least mass producing them). I finally found some from Airsoft Megastore, but in the past I've tended to stay away from them from all the horror stories (though the two times I ordered from them I had no problems). They say they are X-Mod and are an Airsoft Megastore "exclusive" item which is believable as no SHS regular High-Torques are in stock anywhere. Even though I have them, I honestly can't tell if they're High Torque or High Speed (since I've yet to test them). Also I haven't seen many Metal Tooth pistons that can handle above an M140 for the SR25. The Matrix one I have is crap as it's not a "drop-in" and Evike is out of stock of them. They only have Poly CA SR25 or G&P SR25 Pistons. So as long as you don't go above 450 FPS I guess upgrades are out there. Gears and Pistons will be your downfall, the rest is cake depending on what you want to do with it. Also, god forbid if you upper receiver cracks (they put a VERY strong spring on the front of the hop-up for whatever reason, though I'm sure the body design is also at fault if you happen to drop it as well). Replacements for the body are far and few as well (unless you want to dump $150+ on a G&P kit). I had to order mine from somewhere in China and the 3 month wait made it seem like they hand made the damn thing). So it all depends on what you want to do with it. Also Bishop (Task-Force Nightmare) is right with the Polarstar'ing, the G&G has specific nozzles where-as the A&K needs custom modifying ones along with a kit from Bingo.

Just dont send your gun to airsoft gi for their tech services because while they told me 2 weeks it a been a month and a half and the customer service is awful and I still dont have mine back. Find a good local tech or do your own work if you feel youre good at it I also saw the x mod and that's what I immediately thought of. Airsoft Peak - SR25 Upgrade Project - Part 1 -A…: youtu.be/nvsA7QAa0h8 this is a video series I watched that I thought was helpful and showed more upgrade parts. I didnt necessarily follow this guide but I do think it could be helpful. Sent from my SCH-I535 using proboards

You never answered what you plan to do with it? Are you just looking to make it a DMR (~450 fps, semi-auto only), just more accurate? Sniper-Rifle config? What exactly are you looking to get out of it?

I would really like to go with a DMR setup,I'm not real knowledgeable about internals so I have to take baby steps and not f@#k anything up.

DMR as in what? 450fps +, semi-auto only? Sub 450 for more of a marksman role?
