Have quite a bit of experience in Paint Ball, but none in Airsoft. The group that I have played paintball with for the past 6-7 years has broken up.
One of my co-workers who also played paintball with us has been inviting me to come play airsoft for a couple of years now.
I finally bought a gun (won't be here until tomorrow) and will slowly build up my airsoft equipment.
I bought an ARES G-36c (it was between this gun and a G&G GR16 CQW Rush - but it was out of stock when I went to place my order) My Tippmann A-5 has an OpsGear shroud that makes it look like a G-36c as well. I went with this gun because it is LiPo ready (I have a lot of RC planes and helicopters and plenty of LiPo's and a good balance charger so an few less things to have to buy) and I also like the idea of the quick change spring to be able to change the FPS depending on the situation.
I have played paintball at No Limits in Taylor, Futureball in Whitmore Lake, and Hells Survivors in Pinckney, as well as a couple fields close to Louisville, KY.
We were planning on coming to No Limits this Saturday, but they have backed out. At this point I am unsure if I want to drive from Lansing to Taylor when no one I know will be there, especially since I won't have time to do anything with my gun before I get to the field and have never played airsoft before. I certainly don't want to be a drag on other's fun especially since this will be the first time a lot of people are getting out this year.
In any case I plan on being out quite a bit this year and hopefully will meet some of you and have some fun along the way.
Thanks,
Zzan

Welcome Zzan. As a former paintballer myself, airsoft is definitely different in that you can show up to events by yourself and you'll still have fun. Mostly everyone that attends these rec games are very helpful and friendly. As long as you have a gun, battery, bb's, barrel condom and either full seal goggles or a mask then you've got the basics covered and are good to go. You won't be a drag on any of us so don't worry about that. If you have any questions or need any help, the Suicide Kings will be more than happy to help out in any way that we can.

As long as UPS keeps the schedule I should have the gun and BBs tomorrow when I get home from work. I already have batteries and have already charged them.
I have my paintball mask and I have a paintball pod holder that my mags fit in until I decide what I want and have the money to invest in a MOLLE vest/chest rig with proper pouches.
Thanks for all the support. I will make an effort to be there.

If not, borrowing or rentals are always an option

Welcome to the forum! I played paintball for 14 years prior to taking up airsoft, which was also due to a coworker.
The first thing you will notice, once someone helps you dial in your hopup, is that you have quite a bit more range with your airsoft gun. I thought it was the case, but it had been a few years since I played paintball. My work had me set up a paintball game at no limits last summer so I cracked out my DM9. I felt like my range was horrible! I then had an airsoft game there a couple weeks later and I was blown away at how much further my airsoft gun shoots. Your BB's path is also fairly flat, for almost the entire flight, unlike paintballs that are on an arch almost from the second they leave your barrel.
Definitely head out if you get the chance, there will be plenty of friendly and knowledgeable people there to help you get your feet wet. One thing to keep in mind is that airsoft games run a bit longer than paintball games, before there is a break, so bring water on the field with you if you have a way to carry it.

Well my gun arrived, but I have a couple issues. My RC LiPo's are too thick to fit where they are supposed to go, so I may need to see if I can pick up something smaller, but doubt I can do that before tomorrow morning, and still get it charged by event time. The other issue is the gun is shooting over 400 FPS with .20 bb's according to the coke cam chronograph. shoots easily through both sides, shoots through center bottom, does not shoot through bottom near edge. so that leads me to believe it is shooting somewhere between 420 and 450fps according to the site I referenced. Which is too high except for perm semi or bolt, which this gun is not. I don't have another spring to put in to reduce it's FPS (don't even know what strength the stock spring is so I know which spring to buy) I do have 2 3000rnd bags of .25's that will reduce the FPS some, but the rules are for .20 < 400 fps I will probably head out anyway just to say hi to everyone and see what is going on, but may not be able to play. I believe that you only need to chrono with .20 bb's and can use what ever size after that of your choosing. I could be wrong though.

Right, but with .20 BB's i believe my gun will chrono at over 420 FPS, which is too high. I am not out to hurt anyone.
Won't know for sure till the AM, as I just used a Coke can to get the estimate here.

Here's your options. Shoot your airsoft gun in full auto and hope that it ends with the spring compressed. In semi-auto, it will always end with the spring not compressed but in full auto it will end wherever in the cycle you let go of the trigger. If you leave it sitting overnight, it may help relax/break in the spring some. What really wears in a spring is a bunch of cycles though. Your next option is to head over to Commandos Airsoft when they open at 10AM tomorrow. You can install the new spring at the field. You will have most of the day to play still. You can grab a battery there too, that will fit your gun. You can charge it at the field also, if you bring your charger. Lastly, for tomorrow, you could just zip tie, or tape your battery to the outside of your gun. I hate to ghetto stuff like that, but playing is more important. The batteries will cost you, WAY too much at Commandos, but it is an option. I'd tape it tomorrow, and buy new batteries from hobby king for your next game. Edit: You have to chrono with .20's. It needs to be below 410FPS. That puts your energy in the BB at a safe level. If you shoot .25's, yes it will shoot slower, but it will still have the same energy due to the higher mass. F=MA It's the energy we care about, not the speed. .20 is just a BB weight that is used to keep the speed that you have to shoot under constant. We could have just as easily chosen .25 and shifted the speed that you have to shoot under.

Zzan I do not believe that is accurate anymore, they may have cut down on the thicknesses to save cost, by all rights, according to the can test, I'm at 410-450, but I'm actually 390 according to my actual chrono
