After searching Google and other forums for a while, I thought this was a question worthy of asking the community. I noticed the weather for Operation: Western Gambit, and from the forecast, it looks like it is going to be chilly.
I am wondering what other folks wear under a Crye STYLE combat shirt, with moisture wicking fabric. What can you recommend?

Long underwear for both top and bottom. This. Which reminds me I need to buy some ASAP. Where goes everyone get them?

Merino wool baselayers are the bomb. Smartwool and Icebreaker make really nice ones but they are quite expensive, however you can find them for sale at places like sierra trading post where the price is worth it. I have a few and I really enjoy them, but regular cotton long underwear will work as well. You can get that stuff pretty much anywhere that sells clothes.

I've been able to fit a thermal top as well as a shell from an old winter coat under my combat shirts. I've been wearing that combination for years playing in winter games and its always served me well. Looks like I'm wearing a fat suit, but that's a different issue...

We were at cru paintball yesterday trudging through the waist deep snow in the forest, and all I had on was a pair of long under and a dickies under armor style shirt, and I was pretty warm while moving around and running throught the deep snow, but once we started to wind down and not move as much I got kinda chilly, so what I'm going to do for gambit is doubling up on my under layers and I should be fine. Oh and bring like 4 extra pairs of socks. And don't forget to bring water I forgot that yesterday and it was not pleasant.

The Gander Mountain brand of thermals in the heavy weight are really nice. I've worn them as the only layer under my hunting suit in temperatures down to -10*F with no problem sitting all day.

Looks like I'm wearing a fat suit, but that's a different issue... Sure... it's the suit... I keep reading about the under armor stuff. Is it really that warm, and where can you buy it locally? I probably don't have time to order it online for Gambit at this point.

I've worn the cold weather under armor, and for the price, it really isn't warmer than a good set of thermal underwear which is a lot cheaper.
If you have a T J Max close by, check out their selection of thermals. I've picked up most of my long underwear and smart wool socks there recently VERY cheap.

You will pay the most for it at a sporting good store like Dick's or Dunhams. But I think Kohls sells it, hell even Walmart does too. But as Squirrel mentioned, it's overpriced and you can buy other stuff that's just as effective for less. However the one thing I like about Under Armor is that it's very comfortable and handles temperature changes better compared to wearing other things.
