Would a SightMark's dot line up with an M4's front sight?

Hello everyone and anyone reading this. I have a G&G M4 and am considering getting a SightMark Reflex sight for it.

The problem; The G&G Combat Machine M4's front sight post is not removable, it is part of the front outer barrel. Because of this, I can not take it off.

The Question; Would a SightMark Reflex's dot line up with the front sight post of an M4, WITHOUT the use of a riser? I have to note that the rear sight is a Magpul PTS MBUS, and my hope is that I can sight in the irons(Front sight post+Rear MBUS), and then use that as a reference point for zeroing the dot, but the rear MBUS would be folded down unless the sight's batteries were to die.

Obviously, I'd appreciate the opinion of someone who actually has run this setup(not necessarily a G&G), but any knowledgeable opinion is appreciated.



Note; I picked this sight because of it's availability, ease of use, price, simplicity, and how easy it is to make the lens shatter-proof(Levian polycarb, anyone?)

In the Army it is the standard practice to "lollypop" a red-dot at the beginning of zeroing a rifle. If you go that route it is imperative that the dot sits right on top of the front sight post so it looks like a lollypop, hence the name. That is only a benchmark meant to get you close, you still have to "sight in" your replica.

That's exactly what I'm aiming for, to "lollipop" it(I'd never heard that term until you mentioned it), but I'm just wondering if this sight will "lollipop" without a riser. Is the height of the front sight post standard of all iron sights, and is it the same as red dot sights?

Based on that Amazon photo, no that sight won't be high enough to co-witness with your FSP

Yeah it's difficult to tell from the picture, but a quick google search yielded this;


Not necessarily the best source of info, but I figure it seems doable. I'm just curious on whether he has the dot on top of the front sight post, or only lined up with it.

I guess I'm wondering, if it DOESN'T line up, can it be fixed with a riser, or is the difference so slight that a low profile riser would raise the dot 1/2" higher than the front sight?

If no one has answered, it's probably because they either don't have one or have access to one.

Honestly, it's a red dot going on an airsoft rifle, I'm sure you'll be able to line it up enough for what it needs to do.

I have that sight on my mp5, but my combat machine body is kind of scattered throughout my closet right now. If you can wait till the 22nd, you are welcome to take a look at it at No Limits.

Anyhow, what's this No Limits thing I'm hearing? Is there a game on the 22nd there?(I've never been to No Limits...)

[EDIT] I looked up that event - A rec game in snow? I don't think I have the gear for snow play(I have Goretex boots, which are waterproof, but no waterproof pants of any kind, so meh). Unfortunate, I got excited for a second there, thinking it was indoor or something, since I've never played indoor. I'm so tired of the winter, I WANT TO AIRSOFT DAMMIT!!!

Oh, and I forgot to ask, how do you like the Sightmark? Worth the $60? I'm definitely(and obviously) considering getting one, due to the fact that it's easy to add polycarb glass to it to make it impact resistant, and that I'm tired of using irons.

It is a pretty good sight. I can't believe the price went up to $46 though. I got mine last year for $29. It is still probably worth it though. It held to to Northern Lights and a few days of indoor CQB so far.

The material used in most military style trousers (polyester or nylon) is designed to repel water. As long as this isn't a over night game and you bring dry clothes to event to change into when you leave, you should be fine. I've done this many times and never had an issue.

Just layer up. Wear under armor under your BDUs and you will stay dry. The snow won't even melt on your BDUs.

Thanks for all the info and supporting words, but after reading horror stories of AEG gearboxes cracking and piston teeth getting stripped off,just from being brittle from the cold, I think I'll pass on the cold weather game(not mentioning that my sidearm is GBB). Unfortunate though, because I was pretty interested in winter play, and the field at No Limits looks really fun(I've never been there).
