Hello I'm, in a word, getting my foot back into airsoft. The one thing I just can't find the answer to is "At what age and experience level would be good to start attending Milsim's/ Events?" I would be thankful for any information and opinions people have on the subject. Also it should be mentioned I live in Battle Creek, I'm 15, and plan on going to the Kalamazoo Airhouse to play.

Welcome back to the hobby! Typically many MILSIM events have minimum age limits of 16 or even 18, but not all of them. The Scenario events that Canto hosts at Hole in the Wall in Bangor typically don't have age restrictions if I recall. Those would be a good start for you and I suggest attending them since Bangor isn't too far from you in Battle Creek.
The reason for the age limits is because it takes a different mentality to play at a MILSIM than it typically does at a REC game. This mentality to follow orders and not run off and abandon completing objectives to find the closest fire fight because there's not much action generally correlates with an older age.
But if you're a mature player and if you are willing to learn and listen to the chain of command then there's really no minimum age and experience level required to attend a MILSIM event, unless there's minimum age limit at that particular event.
My advice to you is to start attending local REC games and the MILSIM/Scenario events that you can get into so that you can meet players in this community and have a good chance of getting vouched for at a MILSIM event that allows this if you don't meet the minimum age requirement.

Thanks for the in sight and information. With event's hosted by Canto how similar are they to a Operation or Milsim like Irene? That reminds me I have some friends going to Bangor for an operation they said was in March just can't remember the name of the operation.

Your friends are probably referring to Russkaya Bratva on March 29th. Check out the Events section on this forum for more information. www.miairsoft.proboards.com/thread/48795/scen-wod1-russkaya-bratva-hitwI haven't been to the "creme de la creme" IRENE yet, although I have been to the last two Lion Claws events that were hosted over in Trenton Michigan the last two years. The biggest difference between local MILSIM events and major ones like IRENE typically is the location of the event and the player turnout. The event hosts of this state do a great job hosting MILSIM events that have fun objectives, strict rules and provide for an engaging experience, but events like IRENE will have around 200 players due to players attending from all across the country. But you are mostly paying for the opportunity to play at a kick ass AO like a MOUT facility on a military base with all of your friends.

www.oplionclaws.com/Google provides. But be sure to pay attention to these guys. Great people and then know what they are talking about. I may be wrong but doesn't LC have age requirements?

I pulled this right of of LC's website. What kind of people take part in these events? Attendees range from accountants, bankers, business owners, clerks, corporate types, current and past military/law enforcement, designers, to lawyers, models, programmers, students, teachers, etc. Remember this is NOT about "War", it's about "Team Effort". What level of skill is required to attend these events? Those who are well disciplined, work well with others and enjoy Military Simulation are welcome. What is the age limit? All events are 18+ unless noted otherwise. There are events where minors ages 15+ may possibly attend if VOUCHED FOR by an attending alumnus (meaning an attending LC alumnus who is willing to vouch for the minor's conduct). Some exceptions are made in Father&Son (Mother&Daughter and variations thereof) events.

I looked that page over last night but a long day mixed with a ton of welding made for a sharp as a spoon slippy. Good catch.

Were would you see things for Lion Claws registration and such? Yeah with the 18+ age limit, LC Ops are still a few years away for you. Which is ok, because they cost more than local MILSIM events with higher events fees and then additional costs associated with lodging and travel. Plus you'll require additional gear, extra batteries, ammo etc to play at a two day op. But just for awareness, Slippy gave you the link for LC ops, and if any major events are occurring in state or in a nearby state, then you'll see threads open up in either the airsoft discussion, events section, or event planning section. Since there's also other events hosted by other teams and organizers in the country. While you're at it, go ahead and check out neighboring state's airsoft forum like airsoftohio.com for all the events that are hosted in Ohio. Or airsoft-indiana.com for events being held in Indiana. There's also some decent MILSIM events hosted by MIR tactical in Il. I believe they host events that don't have 18+ age requirements, but I'm not positive. But if you start attending local MILSIM and Scenario games in state and around our state, then by the time you're of age you'll be ready for the big stuff.
