shop.ehobbyasia.com/action-sl-mk4-aeg-ptw-system.html?utm_source=Homepage&utm_medium=b_banner&utm_campaign=sl-mk4#.UvRmCvldWSoI'm assuming this is some form of a Sterling submachinegun. While its always cool to see something more niche enter the market, the claim (PTW system) is what makes me interested. The magazine does appear to support the claim that it uses some form of PTW system. I guess I'm curious how this is the first untraditional system (non M4 or MP5) that I've seen hit the market. Is it a sign of things to come with more guns using this systme (for better or for worse). Or is this just some wierd one shot, I'm not trying to imply personal opinion just curious on if anyone has read or heard anything

The gun looks awesome possibly proprietary, at least when it comes to mags. The AS VAL replica uses proprietary mags as well, although some say it looks close to fit AK mags. Sorry if I side-stepped the topic, I hope they come out with more unique replicas.

It looks beautiful, though since it's likely heavily proprietary I'll probably wait to see some reviews before sinking $500 into one.

Based on this youtube video it would seem they cloned the MGC Sterling MK4 model gun and put a PTW gear box in it. Right off the bat I noticed it didn't stop firing when the mag was empty so it would seem that not all the PTW features are present. I would also hazard a guess that it is not a Systema gearbox but rather a G&D DTW box. G&D parts have seemingly flooded the retail market. This is just speculation as I haven't actually seen one taken apart but it seems reasonable to me. The PTW planetary gearbox is very compact. I wouldn't be surprised if this trend takes off.

I knew it was smaller but I never knew it could be that compact. That system does open up for some many other gun designs and platforms. I hope it does take off.

Oh yeah, they're compact. One of my favorite things about the PTW is how well packaged it is. I actually did have a good laugh at how tiny the whole gearbox was once I pulled it out.

Yea and I guess the sterling offers that long tube design to fit the rest of the cylinder. Makes me wonder if those older STEMs used a similar design since they mimic a lot of the sterlings overall shape.

Nah, the sten's were on like, an M14 gearbox, and took the MP40 mags.

That would make sense. Redwolf just did a breakdown of this Sterling (my god is it a nightmare to get to the gearbox) and commented that its using a M14 series gearset here too.
