I'm going to bring this back from the dead to ask a question: Gen 1 and 2 Fusion engines, where are they? I have wanted to put either a FE or the New SMP in some of my guns for a while, but $500 is a little steep. I have heard of people picking up Gen 1's for like $300 and Gen 2's for like $400. I am just curious as to where?

I am just curious as to where? The facebook Polarstar buy and sell group regularly has Gen 2s for around the price of 400 or somewhat more with extras. Gen 1s for 300 bucks I've seen once or twice? But I'm not sure 300 bucks is a common price for them.

This is the link, but the admin of the page made it private a while back so it's hard to look up (not sure if the link provided will even direct you to it, but it directs me as I'm a member). Basically you can't get a new V1 or V2, just used ones are available and they're not exactly up for very long (majority of the time). Also it's rare to see one go for $300 though it has happened, but not a common thing. Most are in the ballpark of $400-$450 for anything besides a V3. In the end though, you're better off getting a V3 as buying a V1 and having the Solenoids go bad on you, you'll end up dropping as much as you would have buying a V3 (except now you have a working V1 with less features).

Polarstars have been proven and revised. SMP's have not. Also something to consider.

That is true, but with the SMP, there is much less to go wrong when you consider the actual purpose of it. One solenoid provides a huge increase in reliability compared to two.

One user has hooked an SMP up to shop air and has over 750,000 cycles through it with no issue. Others have also left them in a freezer over night, connected the battery and fired 10+ magazines through them with no issue.
As long as you properly lube the nozzle with some Tech T or the like, you shouldn't have an issue. There really isn't much that can go wrong with it since the nozzle is controlled by the release of air as well.
There are limits to it with it being a true open bolt design, as well as the single valve design. If you are using a shorter barrel or wide bore barrel, high FPS like with P* is not really obtainable.
I am happy with the purchase, as high fps, and stupid rates of fire isn't my thing. Air efficiency is awesome, install is easy, and you can mod it in to pretty much any gun fairly easy unless it is an offset airnozzle gun like the P90.
If you want some solid tech info on the SMP, check out the SMP owners airsoft group. The guys from Wolverine, Bingo, and TNK are very active in the group, and can answer about any question.
