Deacon and Ghast both had G3s that I lust after to this very day. I always wanted a Tokyo Marui G3 SG1 and I had plenty of opportunities to pick one up over the years for a reasonable price but I never jumped on getting one. I even owned a TM PSG-1...

You said no G36s but have you considered SL8-9s? They make decent platforms having a respectable long barrel, modular stock for length of pull and height and still have the V3 gearbox. Not to mention you can chose between running with G36 mags or convert it to use M4 style mags.
It's definantly not something you see everyday.

I've been looking to get an SL8 or SL9 to turn into a DMR. It's definitely an attention getter, simply because they're not all that common.

My old G3 belongs to Theend. I regret selling it!

Love to show you mine thats a older Star SL8 Grey but it's currently in the shop. Wiring finally gave out I had to get it replaced along with a some routine maintence. Gearbox is nearly entirelly SHS and it uses a hopup similiar to the one in the Star FNC that has it locked into the gearbox.

The SL8/9 is a good platform to build on apart from the mags and built in bipod. The little dinky mags are annoying to carry, G36 mags are even more annoying to carry, and the magwell converter makes it look sort of funny since the mags are so thin. The built in bipod is too tall and switching to the RIS front end has battery relocation issues. If you can work with those things it is worth looking at. I built one. Loved the way it shot but hated almost everything else about it. Makes a better sniper rifle than a DMR. Out of your list I would suggest the G3. For starters it is an extremely comfortable rifle to shoot with a scope as long as you're right handed. They use common parts, aftermarket parts are pretty easily obtained and also usually on sale/clearance (they don't sell well), real steel furniture is pretty simple to fit, a 5 pack of real steel slings is hilariously cheap, full stocks fit large batteries, combining them with other HK rifle parts can make some interesting hybrids, they have a lower and upper receiver like an M4 so you can have various lowers for FPS and uppers for length, they are very easy to work on, and they have the right look for a long range shooter. I've used and held a JG and a TM G3 and I can't stand such a large rifle being made of plastic. They flexed and creaked and just didn't feel solid. The Classic Army has a metal body but the hop up unit is terrible and a new bucking won't fix it. You can get a TM and put a metal body on it (I'm not sure how easy they are to find anymore), or get a CA and put a TM hop up unit in it. I have two CA's with TM hop up units and I love 'em. Be advised that there is a difference between the TM and CA magwell. The newer ACM companies might be making G3's now but I only have experience with the above three. The G3 looks goofy with most RIS units which can be an issue if you want a bipod. They look really good without them which balances it out. The SG1 variant comes with a built in bipod (and a cheek riser) but I found it was always too tall to use just like the SL8/9. I recommend the thin handguard up front for comfort and the TM QD scope mount if you can find one. DO NOT buy the King Arms G3 mags. They are horrible and won't feed. My old G3 belongs to Theend. I regret selling it! It's on display in my man cave. Still hits the field from time to time.

There's a good chance I'll be finding myself an E1 G3 soon enough. Big question though, how do I make her pretty? Given it's a TM clone with the plastic body, I'll have to deal with the plastic body (Poorness). Push comes to shove, and I dislike the current look enough, I'll probably end up dishing out cash for a rail system and try tacticooling it.

Tacticooling it sounds like the opposite of what you want to do (make a pretty gun).
Buy steel rifle, find / create a set of OD green or wooden furniture (as issued) for it, treat with respect except on Saturday nights, and you have a lifelong successful relationship.
Don't discount the RPK option. Yes, it's a squad automatic rifle (someone said SMG and... no), so essentially it's a long-barreled AK. Of course parts are common for the AK series, and a long range weapon with the ability to lay on suppressive fires at range is never to be discounted.

Back when I had a CA RPK, I attempted to make it a DMR rather than use it for a SG role because every time I used it, I blew a bushing. Actually it happened twice. Unfortunately I hadn't gotten around to upgrading the gun because the outer barrel snapped in half since CA used a one piece outer barrel rather than a two piece design like in the TSD, or CYMA RPKs. Although with the bipod on the front the gun was very front heavy, if not heavy altogether it and wasn't very comfortable to field. So I'm not really an RPK fan after my experience with the CA RPK. It was however a very pretty gun to look at!

I was playing at Bangor a while back and was advancing from the village towards the air field along the edge of deadwood. Up on the hill, at the top of the peninsula, is a guy with an RPK who is just peppering the hell out of me, my team and basically every tree, blade of grass and bit of cover in sight. This full auto spraying continues for a minute or two and then from the top of the hill I hear this "wheeee-whiz" sound of a piston failing. The collective grown from everyone nearby was classic.

Those G3's are just sexy and I'd have to agree with keeping them in the raw and just getting an extra set of OD furniture, too pretty to paint but all in all an excellent non-typical almost exotic, airsoft DMR. I would be super Jelly If you got this. Since I'm going through an AK building phase right now, Maybe you could custom build an AK DMR variant using non-typical parts combinations? Just an idea but anything is possible and it is your strictly your choice in the end. Anyhow good luck and Happy B-day.

Doesn't the german military still use a G3 varient as a sniper support rifle the same way we use the M14?

Yes and no. They've been using the G28 since 2011.

I think that the g3 or the fal would look nice, but the tar is a good idea. You could always buy a tar and put in aftermarket parts.
