While I have been chairsofting for the longest time now, I've come to face the fact that running in and gunning down people is not my thing, and that using and modifying a sniper rifle isn't practical in the environments I play in. I am a total hipster, and thus hate anything typical that isn't beautiful.
Things that have tweaked my interest: TAR-21 (No one makes a good one for a good price though...) G3 Galil FAL Sig 551 RPK
Any thoughts or recommendations? (No M14, M4, SR-25, M16, G36) NO P*'s either, I'm not swimming in cash.

I'd love to see a G3 DMR, as i barely see them out on the field at all.

Personally, I'm thinking of either the G3 or the FAL because they look the best.

Things that have tweaked my interest: TAR-21 (No one makes a good one for a good price though...) G3 Galil FAL Sig 551 RPK Something you should be looking for is something which has a ton of replacement parts. Especially when you're running it with such high stress. You'll need a highpower spring, tbb, high torque motor, etc. so you're gun will be under a lot of stress. I don't think any of those have many replacement parts, so one is going to be as good as the other. Are you looking for realism or does that matter at all to you? If so, scratch the Galil and the RPK. The Galil is an assault rifle and the RPK is an SMG. Won't work either. Other than that, I would prolly roll with whatever suits you best.

I have to second the G3 or FAL. The G3 looks pretty good with glass on it.
Though I am a huge fan on the Galil, I don't really think it is a DMR style rifle. I can't really even find a picture of one outfitted for some distance shooting.

G3.
Tons of people have done DMR setups with G3s, and they look amazing.

edit: sorry, didn't see you that you mentioned "no Polarstars." This.or something like this.

Since a Polar Star is out of the question, almost any gun that you use with a good R-hop set up will net you some good range without having to beef up your Gearbox to support a 450-500fps set up like you had to do back in the day. You'll get better performance and range with an extended hop set up too.
For a "DMR" set up, I personally prefer V3 gearboxes or a V7 gearbox over a V2 set up.
I would avoid using a TAR-21. The Ares TAR-21 is really nice actually having owned one, but I'm not familiar with the internals enough. You do have the bull pup design which is advantageous. What about a Steyr Aug? They make great DMRs with a V3 gearbox and a good hop up chamber design.
You said no M14, which also makes a great DMR due to the gearbox and hop up. Especially a TM M14 hop up chamber. The G&G and CA are cheaper in price, but actually use an AUG style hop up chamber and use different magazines which aren't as common and are more expensive than TM M14 magazines.
If companies like Echo 1 and a bunch of other Chinese manufacturers all didn't come out with FAL's recently I would have said stay away from that since magazines are harder to find since you only had King Arms offering an FAL, but that's changed since.
Again you can make almost anything a "DMR" now-a-days, even a P90 can be one.

Nothing worse than showing up for a game and seeing a kid with a P90 with a rifle scope or an M4 with a super long barrel "so it has farther range". Do something which IRL can be made/used for a DMR.

I've always been partial to M16 DMR set ups but since you said no M16's I would say go with the FAL. Not to sound like a cod softer here but I have always used that FAL in Call Of Duty/Battlefield as a DMR. Something about them just looks so sexy. A SKS would be an interesting choice as well.

A 20" barrel on an M4 / M16 variant is fairly common, and easily houses a 509mm barrel without going into a flash hider or a suppressor. An SPR setup or a free float rail with a varmint barrel would fit a milsim or rebel style respectively. Now I have seen somebody with a CQBish size M4 that has an ungodly long suppressor on it that covers a 600 something millimeter barrel. That is just silly.

When I said anything can be a DMR, that doesn't necessarily mean that it should be a DMR. Trust me, I'm all for using authentic looking airsoft guns. But I was just saying with the advancements in airsoft, specifically flat hop modifications, which can make a bone stock AEG perform like an airsoft DMR.

Oh, hai guiz... So don't do this, you're saying? In my many years of playing airsoft, I think I've seen one G3 DMR on the field... and it was delicious. But the very best looking airsoft gun (imo) I've ever seen is that SLR/FAL I linked to above...
