So, today or this weekend I plan on ordering a GBB pistol and a mag or two. I've got a few questions about the green gas. - How long will it last in a can, just sitting around? Can I buy a case and store it or will it slowly leak or dissipate?
- How long will it last in a mag? As far as, does it last one mag dump or a few (18 shots per mag)?
- How much does performance lag in the winter vs summer?
- Propane... I've got a spare tank, is it okay to use propane? I've read mixed reports. I also read there is a pump you can use to add oil to it.
Thanks all!

#1 As far as I know it has the same shelf life as cans of Propane. ( green gas is just propane with silicone oil added) #2 You should always keep a little gas in the mag to keep seals from drying out. I've had mags filled for over a month with no loss. #3 The cold will drastically lower the power of the gas, summer heat causes the the gas to expand and generally will bump the power a little bit. #4 Most players use propane, with a little bit of silicone oil added to help maintain the seals. #5 They now make the pump to add oil in to the propane, but honestly it's not needed. a couple drops in the magazine valve or a drop in the adapter before filling will be enough. Propane can be purchased for less than half the price of green gas, and usually is a larger can as well.

Great! Thanks for the info. I assume I can buy a nozzle to fill the mags that attaches to the propane tank... I'll need to look that up.
As far as the silicone oil, how do I put a drop into the mag?
EDIT: Maybe it will make for sense once I get one in my hands.

The guy who started Airsoft Innovations, the manufacturer of the adapter linked to above, wrote an article a long, long while ago in which he tested three types of green gas using mass spectrometry. Basically they all turned out to be propane with some minor additives. Here's a link to the AI propane adapter that references the original article. Obviously, bear in mind that this comes from the manufacturer of a product designed to allow the use of straight propane as opposed to green gas. That aside, the general consensus is that green gas is propane. I've used the old Coleman portable propane tanks for years to fill up my GBB magazines. I usually put a drop or two of silicon oil into the adapter every time I switch cans. I've never had an issue. Welcome to MiA!

Awesome! Thanks for all the info. I wish I could find a place locally that has all I want. I have nothing else to say I hate waiting for things to come in the mail.
Can I dry fire a BGG pistol?

You can, 99% of the time if the replica is working properly the slide will lock back. I personally fire a few rounds every time I add oil, just get it going through the parts.
I wouldn't recommend blasting away for hours on end, but it won't damage it to fire it a few times.

Great! Thanks again. Yeah, there's no real point to dry fire a lot (BBs are CHEAP) I just meant to verify the mag is full or whatever.
Do you guys buy your silicone locally or do you order online?

Silicon oil is used a lot in paintball guns; so you can usually find little bottles of it sold at Dunhams, Gander Mountain and other places that sell paintball equipment.
Of course, you can probably also buyer it in larger quantities and for cheaper at places like Lowes, Home Depot, etc in the lubricants aisle or wherever. You just want to make sure that you're actually getting silicon oil as stuff like WD40 will eat away at the seals or dry them out.

Pure silcone oil is also sold as RC Shock oil in small non aerosol bottles. I like it because you can get it in different weights depending on what you need it for.

Great. Ordered an M&P copy, a spare mag, 5000 .20g BBs, a decent size bottle of silicone oil and a propane adapter. Now I just gotta wait for the UPS Santa.

Yeah, since no one else has a full size M&P out yet. When that other company comes out with a full size I'll probably get it too. Also, I didn't notice in the other thread that you asked if my avatar pic was taken at firing line. Yes it was! Good eye. Everything I ordered though came out to $134 which I thought wasn't bad.

I live about a mile from Firing Line, I'm there quite a bit. If you don't mind, I'd love to check out your M&P once you get it. I have a full size real steal, and have been dying to get one for airsoft.

We live pretty darn close to one another then cause I live less than a mile from them as well. Haha. I was just there on Friday.
I'd be happy to meet up and let you check it out.
