I don't mean to keep pushing everyone towards this radio. There are lots of commercial radios out there. I looked around a bit and found the Vertex VX-231. I saw that some guy who worked as a radio tech said they were more durable than the icoms although they are a little more expensive and you would have to look into the programming software.
I don't want people to think that there's only Talkabouts and iCOMs. Obviously there are more options. I just haven't used the others to give a comparison or recommendation.

It's honestly better for me to get a radio that was tested before than a radio that they "say" is good. And so far that's the only radio I got recommended for.

Also buy from American resellers, using a payment method which gives you some protection. That way you can be wrong without being totally screwed.
