This local group is hosting/hosted a full scale airsoft game on a PUBLIC park located in Commerce Township. The specific park is Hickory Glen Park. Who on earth are these idiots? Can we please make sure these guys are never allowed to be a part of MiA? They even make it extremely obvious that they are playing on public land... www.bdsairsoft.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=ue&action=display&thread=56"A word about civilians and the police: Being smack in the middle of summer, there may be people at the baseball diamonds, which was the case at ASF4. For the first time ever in 12 years, we had an officer come back into the field mid-game and tell us that someone was being rude to a civilian strolling through the woods. He did not stop the event, he simply wanted to make sure we were taking the proper cautions and said he didn't want to get anymore calls." www.facebook.com/events/461783380575774/ <--- Not sure if it's public or not, but I was invited to this game MONTHS ago until I realized that they weren't SEMIAirsoft, and were in fact, a bunch of stupid kids. Basically, that link clearly states that they are playing at a public park. Is that really the "Maverick" from here on MiA? If so, what the FUCK ARE YOU THINKING?

Been part of the SE-MAP group for a while. The majority of them aren't on MiA for a variety of reasons, so they created that group. I haven't attended any of their airsoft events due to obvious reasons, but according to them they have permission from the sheriff. Still worries me, though.

Be honest, Da Vinci, they're not on MiA because they refuse to follow our safety rules, such as full seal goggles, FPS limits, and, what's news to me, playing on private/approved land only.....

Hence, why I've never played at any of their games. I asked back when I joined about their rules, and they're certainly much more lenient with things than here, which does give some safety issues.

Look, I'm part of both groups, and enjoy both groups, there was a good number of SE-MAP guys at the last No Limits game. They choose to not be a part of MiA for their own reasons. They're a nice group of people just like you guys. I am both a SE-MAP and a MiA member. So yeah I'm apparently one of those stupid kids. I follow their rules just like I follow MiA rules. You want to kick me out because I'm a part of their group as well go ahead. They don't insult you guys so I hope you can be the same. Both groups are awesome and nice, for the most part, so please try to be civil about this. I don't want 2 groups I'm a part of at each others throats or anything.
P.S. the Maverick they have is not the Maverick from 3.14.

Look, it's obvious that these guys don't try to promote here because they know what they do wouldn't fly here. People that are part of both places should try to encourage them to play safer and more responsibly. Ultimately it's up to each of us to police ourselves as far as staying safe. I can lecture all of you on the importance of proper eye protection, or not playing in public, or whatever. I can also make sure that you don't encourage people to do things that are dangerous or a bad idea when you post here. If you don't think they should be playing in a public park, then perhaps respectfully say so. The reasons we don't aren't just because of what kind of image it portrays to the public. Ultimately it's a safety issue. An unprotected stranger could wander in and be hurt. Someone could be out in that park as well and be carrying, and see someone coming toward him with what looks like a fully automatic rifle. What if they decide to draw down and kill this kid because they fear for their safety? What if someone calls the cops and the officer responding didn't get the memo that a bunch of kids are running around with toy guns that look really real?
It's better for everyone when people don't play in places readily accessible and viewable by the public. Because the public is stupid, and to be quite honest many kids (and adults) that play airsoft are arrogant and mouthy, and are not good mouthpieces for the sport.
That said, I welcome anyone who wants to post and contribute in a positive manner here, regardless of what other forums they are part of, or what events they may attend. As long as they follow the rules here and promote more of the same, they can and should stay.

I'm pretty sure those guys posted in the recruitment thread a while ago. They were talking about playing on city land, not following basic safety rules, etc
I would stay away from their forums and games.

I've been to several of their games like ASF4 & 5, they are good about anyone who ends up on the field, they all have coms and whistles so the game is stopped at the first sign of a civie. As for the whole cops coming from someone thinking theres kids with rifles not only do they have the Sheriff's Permission they locals are notified when a game is being held. It's better for everyone when people don't play in places readily accessible and viewable by the public. Because the public is stupid, and to be quite honest many kids (and adults) that play airsoft are arrogant and mouthy, and are not good mouthpieces for the sport. I think we can all agree the public can be very stupid. That said, I welcome anyone who wants to post and contribute in a positive manner here, regardless of what other forums they are part of, or what events they may attend. As long as they follow the rules here and promote more of the same, they can and should stay. I also agree, I follow the rules of each group and know and respect each one as its own group, the last thing we need is an Airsoft Cold war here.

It really isn't worth starting anything with them. In their minds they are right, in our minds, we are right. We obviously have a conflict of ideals. They are very clear that they do not agree with us, and it isn't worth trying to change their points of view. www.bdsairsoft.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=cst&action=display&thread=43My personal opinion on the matter is as follows: I am an adult. I have a full time professional job. The type of job that I have does not allow me to have any sort of criminal record, misdemeanor or felony. For that reason, I choose to play on fields that are licensed and insured for the purpose of airsoft. I also chose the MIA community because many of the members here have the same ideal / viewpoint as I do. Safety is also one of my greatest concerns with all of my hobbies, including airsoft. We all have different ideas of what is safe. Do I completely agree with MIA's safety standards? No. Are there things I would change? Probably yes. They do work to keep players safe at all of our events though. They are strict, but without strict standards, things will fall apart quickly. There is always going to be disagreements among airsofters over rules and procedures. We will have our events, and they will have theirs. If they want to abide by our standards, they can come to our events. If you want to attend events that are on public land without insurance, feel free to go to theirs, but know there will be no liability coverage. Leave it at that, and do not provoke any more bad blood.

A friend of mine keeps inviting me to play in their events. But I've watched some of their gameplay of their fields and it's like, they are playing in local public parks with little kids play scapes. Also I have been assured by them that the local authorities have given the okay for them to do it. But it's still iffy and I won't be attending their games at all. However I have come in contact with some of the members there and the few I talked to were incredibly rude to me because I was asking questions about how they go about safety.

You are completely missing the point, Phantom Reaper. Although they may alert the public that a game is being held on public lands, that doesn't mean that EVERY SINGLE PERSON will be alerted so. There is, and always will be that slim chance that a random walks on an active game and gets his eye shot out because someone didn't realize they were a civi. Do you really expect the PD to take the heat for that? I highly doubt it. The second a civi is hurt due to people playing on public land, everyone and ANYONE who plays airsoft gets called out, and airsoft gets a bad rep. This is EXACTLY why we do NOT condone on playing on public land. The field is not barred off from locals from strolling on, randomly walking their dog through the woods in a public park. Say the local didn't get shot up, but the dog reacted to a bunch of kids running around the woods with "guns"? There are too many factors that could come into play, and it's best just to bar this kind of dangerous activity.

I'm not going to argue that the risk isn't greater at their main field, because it is. But don't call them morons for playing their way. You don't have to condone them playing on public land, because they're not a part of MiA, they are their own group with a few people who are a part of both groups. I agree 100% with this, This kind of discussion can end up going a bad route and could end up creating tension between the two groups. Something none of us need. Lets just let each respective group do its own thing.

Playing in a public park is a dumb idea. Are you telling me that one of those members dont have a big enough back yard to host some events. I am not saying a backyard event is much better but at least it is not a damn public park. Just think phantom, if you accidentally shoot a civilian, how much do you think the law suit against your family will be? A lost eye, easily $100,000. While I know you do everything you can to make it safe by notifying the police and carrying your rape whistles, it does not mean it is safe. I know my gun can make a bb go 300 feet and I damn well know when I am shooting at an enemy that is 50 feet away I am not looking for what is 300 feet away, "sorry sir I did not mean to shoot your eyes out, I told the sheriff I was going to be playing here and I have my rape whistle, I guess you did not get the memo to stay out of the public park that you pay your property taxes for"
Playing in a public park = a very stupid idea.

Just because they got the OK from law enforcement does not mean that what they are doing is right.

This is the last thing I will say in this thread. I feel If I continue this discussion I will end up choosing on group over the other, something I refuse to do. It really isn't worth starting anything with them. In their minds they are right, in our minds, we are right. We obviously have a conflict of ideals.
