<quote>Magpul PTS to be Discontinued PTS is halting production of Magpul licensed items for the forseeable future. You can find more information here, but if you're a Magpul fan, pick up your airsoft upgrades while they are still available.</quote> I just received a newsletter from Airsoft Outlet NW with the above information. Wow, that really sucks! There was nothing to click on in the email for more info, nor do they have anything that I've found yet on their website, I'm still digging into this. Has anyone heard anything about this? Edit: OK, so there was something at the bottom of their main page, but when clicked on, it was a broken link. Honestly I can't see this is true, maybe that's why it's a broken link! Ha! I can see 3 questions on July 26th on the Magpul FB page inquiring about this, with no response from Magpul. Found an article on it. I'm reading it right now, but here is the link. www.popularairsoft.com/magpul-pulling-products-out-airsoft-marketEDIT 2: The summary of the article... Magpul PTS IS going to halt production and the decision is claimed to be made out of response to all the counterfeit Magpul and Magpul PTS products that are being sold as if they are the real deal. Magpul PTS is being renamed, just PTS it looks like, and they will continue to have licensing contracts with other companies to produce products with their trades.

I haven't found any info further on this yet. I don't even know if it is true, maybe it was printed in error?

if its legit, start a petition, they work trust me. Everyone who wanted a new Star Wars : Battlefront joined a Facebook petition for it...and DICE is making one after acquiring the Star Wars game license. While I don't own any Magpull yet I plan to own plenty and would hate to loose the ability to get some.

I can see why they wanted to go that route. It's hard to tell these days if its a Magpul PTS or if its a Chinese copy. It's good to know that they aren't really going away.

This has been discussed on various forums, and I read that it has something to do with PTS (the company that holds the license for and actually produces magpul airsoft parts) refusing to pay royalties for using the brand name. Aparently the previously didn't pay royalties because they were not in competition with real steel magpul, but now all of a sudden magpul wants them to pay up. This is supposedly coming from someone with ties to PTS. I think it was on ASM or arnies.
Apparently there was also an issue with PTS/other clone parts ending up on RS firearms and breaking.
I really don't see this being that big of a deal though since most real steel magpul stuff fits on airsoft replicas. I wouldn't pay the same price for a replica part when the real one is available anyways. The main thing that might be an issue is mags and pistol grips for AEGs.I highly doubt that the non PTS clones will go away though.

They mentioned it a bit on the last "This week in airsoft" podcast, sounded more like a stores distributor was discontinuing them, not Magpul PTS themselves, besides any of the legality of it all, Magpul brand products sell very well in airsoft, so regardless of the outcome, I don't see why Magpul would stop making extra profit ontop of their real steal counterparts.

If PTS is a separate company from Magpul, then I can see why they might be having problems with the clones taking their business. Asides from specialized items, like AEG grips and magazines, most real steel Magpul will fit fine on replicas. Most of PTS' line is priced about the same as the real stuff, too (some even more expensive), so its understandable that people would either want to buy straight from Magpul, or from a much more inexpensive Chinese copy that works just as well for airsoft.

I will say the PTS PMAGs will be missed. Way overpriced but the highest quality mag I've used so far. They're double the price of a real steel PMAG, but they feel great and feed flawlessly in my KWA.

I'm sure you will still always be able to find it from over seas places and so they are going to try to do what glock did to the replicas and a company will just figure a way around that so it's nothing that big. It would be nice to see the real deal magpul stuff for airsoft drop a little it's so high now I usually just by the clone stuff any way because I can afford it for airsofting. The real deal stuff will always be what I use for the real fire arms so I wouldn't worry to much.

This looks like the sort of situation that will scare other real steel manufacturers away from the airsoft market. Why go through the hassle when China will just rip it off?
I do hate how badly PTS has been ripped off (they even got the damn box). Most real steel companies contribute lame laser etched trades. Magpul actually made products that improved my rifles and my game play. Gotta give them props for that.

This is a sad day for airsoft, but I can't blame Magpul for doing this. Like Gunslinger said, some brilliant over-seas entrepreneur is going to find a way around this little moratorium. However, I can see a bit of price inflation around the corner for actual Magpul PTS stuff when everyone panic buys the AFG or MIAD stock they've been putting off forever. [Edit] (Dunno why I said X and not Gunslinger... )
