Ok, I'm buying another G&G CM. It's not much of a step up as I've already had a CM, but it's what I can afford as I need some gear and such. I'm looking at the standard G&G Raider and the R8-L ( www.evike.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_44_218&products_id=39870 ) My problem with the R8-L is that it doesn't look very military. I don't do a certain impression, but I usually go for a military look, and I can't find an instance of the military using that type of rifle. Am I working too hard, or should I just buy the Raider? Could you guys tell me (pics highly appreciated) if the military would use this style of rifle, or whether I should just roll with a Raider.

Based on eyeballing that gun it looks like a replica of a mid length gas tube which is why it doesn't look "military" to you. The military uses carbine length gas tubes on their M4s. For example: Carbine Length... kwausa.com/2012-09-20-14-43-07/kwa-km4-risMiddy... kwausa.com/2012-09-20-14-43-07/kwa-km4-sr10So I don't think you're going to find anyone other than PMC groups using that length rail system / gas tube. I own a mid length AR-15 and I like the length much better than my airsoft gun which is a carbine. I'm considering getting the SR10 for that reason. If your primary concern is that it's military looking I think you will find the mid length guns to be unsuitable. If you were going for a standard issue look I would get this... www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_24_237&products_id=12139

Thanks a lot, that really helps!
I'm not really going for a standard issue look. I'm going with multicam and a tan MOPC so it's more of a Navy Seal/Special Forces look.

Well if you were going for a special forces loadout I would imagine that you would have a lot of options. Although, I would bet that using a carbine length rail is going to be a necessity. I have seen some pictures where they replace the front sight post with a low profile gas block and the rail is extended about an inch or so. Like this guy...

The problem with making a MK18 Mod1 is I don't have the funds right now as I need to buy some gear, a BDU, as well as a primary. But I think I'll buy the CM shorty and buy the DD 9.5" RIS later. That helps, guys. Thanks!

Keep in mind that you don't have to go that route to be accurate. The majority of the pictures I see show SEALs using the standard rails and front sight post.

Honestly, getting a DD 9.5 RIS II in dark earth is almost impossible. You really have to shop around to fing them. AirsoftCarolina has them, and so does Ehobby, but they are really hard to come by now. Youre better off just getting what suits you best instead of going for accuracy when it comes to MK18s.
