Actually cradle just released some awesome speed loaders on their website, I'm sure they'll come in handy. BTW, the best way to directly contact Cradle AS is throw Arnies. Their username is t_hum, and if you don't have an Arnies account I would highly suggest getting one.

After having recently purchased a KJW M4 from M.S. ARC I noticed that the hop up adjustment leaves a lot to be desired. Using .30 Biovals, on one hop setting I'm under hopping, and on the next setting I'm over hopping. I hadn't tore the gun apart to see how the hop up system worked but I had found a TDC mod that Cradle was offering. I was seriously contemplating breaking my gun down and sending my receiver in, to have this done, when I started to really take a closer look at what they were really doing.

From everything that is shown in their pictures, all that appears to be done for this TDC mod is to drill a hole in the top of your receiver, then thread it to accept a set screw. After the mod, this set screw is now what pushes the hop up arm down to provide hop adjustment.

I use to build RC airplanes and also flew large RC helicopters for years, so drilling custom holes and tapping them is nothing new to me. I decided to give this mod a try on my own this past weekend. Since the location of this hole, where it lines up with the hop up arm, is very important I of course clamped the stripped upper down at my drill press. The hole has to be centered in the last rail section of the upper receiver, shown in the following picture.


I tried to first use a M3-.5 Tap to thread this hole and it failed miserably. I suspect that the material that the receiver is made out of is not conducive to this fine of a thread. I ended up mostly just stripping the hole out, instead of tapping it. I then moved up to a much more course threading and tried a 6-32 Tap. This tap seems to have done the trick. The set screw I was able to pick up over the weekend, is not as long as I would like, but I have now picked up new ones that aren't shown in the picture. The smaller set screw is shown in the following picture where the Gas Tube Path is shown. Also noteworthy, is that the gas tube has to be trimmed down some in order to make room for the set screw. I'll list the dimension of material that has to be cut off soon.


It is definitely functional with the small set screw, but I would prefer to have a set screw that sits flush with the top of the receiver when the hop up is turned fully off. As mentioned above, I just received the longer set screws from McMaster Carr and will be trying it out tonight.

As you can see in the next picture, the old hop up adjustment dial is still installed after this mod. I just have it set so that it is fully off. This way any adjustment to the hop up is completely handled by the set screw.


The way the stock hop up works, the dial has multiple notches that a small nub on the back side of the hop up arm clicks into. Each notch is cut into the dial at a different height. The reason this is not desirable is because inevitably the desired setting is half way between two notches. The set screw adjustment makes the adjustment have infinite possibilities.

Edit: I just got done giving the new hop up adjustment a try. I can say, without a doubt, it is way better now. I'm now able to dial it in perfectly for .30 Biovals, running the cradle valve with no spacers on it. I don't know what velocity that puts me at, since I wasn't thinking to bring the chrono out with me. I would say that I'm fairly confident that I could hit a man sized target fairly consistently at 190 Feet. I'm not positive, because my man sized target went home for the day. I'll update later when I have more concrete information, but that might not be until the No Limits game on June 9th.
