Hey guys! My brother has a DE Ak47. Recently, it locked and wouldn't fire. He had me go through it, and instead of just unlocking it, I put some metal gears I had into it to replace the plastic ones. But it's got a pretty slow ROF. He wants to drop a new gearbox into it, but He doesn't want to spend the money yet. Instead of the gearbox, would putting in a new high torque motor fix the problem? The shell itself is plastic, along with the piston, piston head etc. What do you guys think?

I'm no pro tech, like most other guys here, but you'll probably want a metal shell just to make sure it doesn't rip itself apart. Battery, wires, and motor would probably be the first things to upgrade on it for ROF.

To be totally honest, it's not worth putting any money into this. If it has a plastic gearbox, shell, etc it is a generally a gun meant for children/beginners sold from a chain store. I would recommend just saving his money and searching the commerce section here for a cheaper AK. He can get into a Dboy or Cyma for around $90-110 if he keeps his eyes peeled.
When I first started years ago I had a Famas with plastic internals. I tried fixing it/upgrading it when it broke but ran into more problems down the road and a lot of parts weren't even compatible.

Yeah, I would just upgrade him completely to a metal internal(and external if possible) gun. It will be easier to upgrade and a better base gun. Like Blag said^
