First off...if this belongs in the tech section or somewhere else, mods please feel free to move it. But now on to the post...
Well the day has finally arrived. I knew a long time ago when I gave up airsoft that at some point I would join the scene once again. But with that day, I'm doing things a little differently this time. I know what I need to survive, and so I'm looking to form that exactly and nothing more. I need an mp5 that will work for a long time with no technical issues (other than the settling in period that all guns have), and will make the best fit for me). So on to the questions...
First and most importantly...with all of you having more tech experience than I do, I need help picking out a mp5 that will work the best for me and not break the bank. If I had to set a budget, I would probably say about $200 or a little more for the whole gun including upgrades I do to it. There is the option of getting a new one, or getting one used and overhauling the internals entirely.
I need your input on the best set up for what I need. Let me explain what that is. I plan to run a very lightweight fast rig. And so therfore i need an mp5 that will work for me. I want something that I can run almost exclusively in semi-auto and have a short and light trigger pull. I have looked into the AWS Stealth mosfet to install and take care of the trigger. Any input on what I could do fort he rest of the gearbox or an alternative for the mosfet that would be appreciated. Also, I need to know what motor to get...or a stock one that comes with it.
Rate of fire isn't an issue because I would be working with semi auto and when it is in full auto it would be short bursts, so I don't need more than like 10-15 rps, and I will be using a 7.4v lipo more than likely. Oh...and I need my fps to be right about 340 so I can have range outside but still use it in cqb.
I plan to replace whatever barrel I have in the replica with a tightbore that will extend through a suppressor, so I have that taken care of. I will need a recommendation of a hop-up or motor to accomplish the optimal performance.

I'm no tech, but I've had A TON with JG's MP5 (particularly the SD5). I've owned two SD5s and they work like a dream. I'm selling mine right now (along with accessories: www.ebay.com/itm/251203573005?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649) for an M4 so if your interested, pm me... or just buy it. G&G's are a little out of your price range, but the CM version is pretty decent I've heard. However, I think they're discontinued... I'd say go with a JG (my SD perhaps? I have nothing else to say) and overhaul the internals. I personally think the SD5 is the best because it's got a full stock to accommodate a HUGE battery, a suppressor (which allows a TBB to go right through to the of it), and has 350 FPS (Perfect for CQB, but with a TBB, could be at least 370+) Maybe save up $270 and get a G&G EBB (another thing to break, but it's all they've got.) www.evike.com/advanced_search_result.php?search_in_description=1&keywords=H%26K+MP5+G%26G+&x=0&y=0I still say either buy mine, or get a new one, but with the addition of internals, accessories, etc., the JG should fit your budget perfectly. Cheers!

I guess my choices are either buy a new G&G mp5 after saving a little money, or buy something else lower quality and changing out the internals. So what have you all found to be the best combinations of parts for a ver. 2 gearbox that lasts the longest? I heard that SHS parts are pretty good. Anyone confirm?

No, get the G&G. It's solid as a rock, make sure it's non-EBB.

ICS makes arguably the best MP5 series on the market. I suggest taking a look into them. I can't remember the price off the top of my head...

My son runs 2 different mp5s One is the g&g ebb bone stock and has had 0 problems the year that he has had it. Second is a CA proline mp5sd built till the hilt with 0 problems. Bottom line is you will get different views from everyone on the boards. Buy a cheaper version and upgrade or high end version and leave it be til something breaks.. If your ever at Eastside when I'm there, you can give them both a try to get the feel for what you want.

G&G for sure. I've had mine for maybe 4+ years now. No issues so far and has remained very consistent. It's one of my "untouchables" and I will not sell that thing.

G&G would be at the top of my list as well.
Cyma MP5s, specifically the 041B and 041J models, are clones of the G&G EBB models. I owned an 041J for a hot minute and it was "ok," nothing special to write home about.
The blow-back on both the G&G and Cyma EBB models can be disabled, iirc.
SRC MP5s, if you can find them, have a stamped steel receiver which is supposed to be quite nice.
The newer-ish ICS MP5s, the MX5 series, has some interesting features, but I'm not sure some of the odd details that ICS chose to build on (weird stock, weird irons) are worth it.
It's hard to go wrong with CA MP5s. If you can find one relatively cheap it might be worth picking up.
In general, I'd say do some research and find out which manufacturer produces the best looking, most realistic model and then buy that or the closest thing to it depending on your budget. I wouldn't worry about the quality of the internals as much since those can be easily replaced.

I've been running a G&G MP5A2 (non-blowback) bone stock since 2010. I love the way it looks, feels, and fires, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I would recommend saving up a bit, and getting better quality the first time. Upgrading is a bitch, and you'll probably do something wrong a few times. Also, by the time you drop money on new internals, you'll have paid for a better quality stock gun (if not more). Buy something that will work out of the box, and won't let you down. You'll spend your time on the field instead of at your workbench. Now, I don't want to discourage you from upgrading a gun -- it's a lot of fun, if that's what you're into. Maybe down the road, you'll want to do some tinkering, but don't do it to a gun that hasn't let you down. Make sure you've got a gun that you can field.

I got an older CA MP5A2 (Not A4 as I previously thought), it worked fine for it bit, but the gearbox just cycled slowly, and after finding out the "grease" in it was more akin to old dried Elmer's glue, I re-lubed and shimmed and, and from there had problem after problem. The motor had almost no torque, semi-auto broke, the piston stripped, quite a few mishaps. It might or not have been my fault. But, I do know that think is built like a rock, and I've HK slapped it tons of times and not even the charging handle has broke. Still not too big of a fan of the lower receiver, though...

I love my ICS MX5, the quick swap gearbox upper and 3RB are great features, plus they have some pretty nice externals.

Ya. Glad to hear all the positive posts, however I am going to have to look into other options other than G&G I'm afraid. I heard that G&G's contract of licensing with H&K expired so they can't make or sell anymore of them.
I am sad to hear this, but if this is actually true, I want to know what would be a very similar alternative. I looked into the ICS MX5 and its nice, however a bit pricey. I love the three round burst factor, but not sure if its worth the price.
What would you recommend to be a comparable substitute for a G&G?

A Tokyo Marui then, probably cheaper in price, but as long as you don't open the gearbox, will never break.

Ok. I will look into those. I don't plan on opening up the gearbox, however, I might upgrade the motor and change the body.
