This'll probably drop me back down to a "noob" level, but if a gas mask is full seal (They should be, or that defeats the purpose), and has ANSI rated lenses, would they be allowed on the field and considered full-face protection as well? I looked through the stickies and couldn't find anything, but if I completely overlooked something on this matter, please tell me. If I were to go to any "post apocalyptic" game or one that had extensive use of smoke, I'd like to have my gas mask to use for it. The mask in question is an Evolution 5000 gas mask, which everywhere I read states it has impact resistant lenses, however I can't find an ANSI rating, just that they exceed U.S. military specs. Can someone shed some light on this?

Provided that the lens is ANSI rated, I don't see a reason why it wouldn't constitute full-face protection. It does, of course, depend on the discretion of the field operator.
On a more practical note, no accounts of military personnel operating in gas masks has ever made it seem like something someone would do out of choice. In general, gas masks seem to be seen as the worst thing ever.
If you're looking for a post-apocalyptic type thing, you might try a respirator. These tend to just cover the mouth and nose and are a bit more low profile than a full on gas mask.
You can probably find some decent respirator reviews on Urbex forums...

I run a 3m respirator to resemble a HALO mask and works great.

I used to run a gas mask for a British NBC load out for a while, If they are ANSI rated, they should be fine, but I should warn you; You gonna have a hard time breathing, I am a Very physicaly active Athletic Highschooler, and I am out of breath at least 10 times faster, the lenses also fog up, and vision is terrible. If you have any more questions feel free to ask away.

We have allowed a gas mask on our field for one of our regulars and have tested its protection and they will do the job, but as said they will fog up quickly, most limit oxygen intake (some are better than others), and will make you sweat a bit quicker. Generally not worth it. If you want to cover your mouth a respirator will do the trick, as mentioned, but it will also limit your oxygen intake somewhat, even without the filter(s) attached. I used a respirator for CQB for a while.

I'll jump in the pack here and say that wearing a gasmask will be considerably worse than breathing in the smoke, even if you're a mild asthmatic.
The majority of gasmask lenses are, actually, not impact rated - they're glass which offers good protection against hostile environments and shouldn't be eaten away as much as plastic. These don't take BB's too well.
Gasmask with the filters removed is a lot better, and you can look into the airsoft 'Protector M-04' series masks that sort-of replicate the M40 and have built-in fans and whatnot.

My team mate and cousin wore gas masks with the dual layered lenses. He could hardly breath, they get hot, and a bb can go through them (one did before). He quickly realized that was a stupid idea.

Warning on those Protector M-04 masks, they're not airsoft safe. I was reading reviews about those last month and almost all of them said the lenses are a no go. Fire test video for your viewing pleasure www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUw0pKVlsoU. I use a 3M mask for my STALKER loadout; fits like a glove, comfortable, doesn't restrict airflow too much, and depending on the model it can accommodate a wide range of goggles.

Before I went back to school I was a very high end painting contractor (1 million and up homes usually). When applying acrylics and oil based sealers we wore the 3M respirators, they are hot as fuck and make breathing more difficult. I honestly don't see any logical reason to wear a respirator for airsoft. Trust me they suck to wear around all day, anyone who claims they aren't hard to breathe through is full of shit.
