This isn't for BDUs but for my gun... what would be a good scheme or colors to use for summer and fall/spring?

It would depend on the gun style and area that you play in the most. If you are looking for a more "universal" gun camo, I would look at more tan and brown with some green because of a dead-leaf floor. Make sure to create "splotches" or lines to create a break-up of the outline of the gun (just like in BDU camo). You can even take leaves and put them on the gun then take spray paint and spray it to get the outline of the leaf.
More tan and brown will give you good camo for fall and spring and can help during summer too. If you have an assault rifle or carbine, you can put more green in it if you wish since you don't have to worry about blending in too much since you will be assaulting with it.

Just use krylon ultra flat camo sprait paint. The khaki is very popular and it is a great base color. If you are looking for actual good camouflage then use some netting/laundry bag/onion bag (honeycomb pattern) and spray over the tan base coat with small stripes of several shades of brown and green. You can also use leaves and natural objects as well. Just set them on the gun and dust over them to get the outline. All in all though, a lot of people just paint their guns to look cool since for an assaulter role it isn't all that necessary. The best camo is just simply putting a few rubber bands or elastic bands around your gun and tucking in foliage for where you are playing. This is generally impractical for assaulting since it looks ridiculous and gets caught on stuff.

Try to match your uniform somewhat, so that when the rifle is held against you they don't contrast

Camouflage isn't also necessary for guns, as ctres said. If you just want it for the novelty and to look good, you can do a full camouflage paint job (which there are tons of guides for), or a more "dusted" look that easily wears and makes the gun look used. I used a can of Rust-Oleum "Camouflage" tan, and gave a light tan spray and some heavier stripes on my AK. It wore well after a few games, and looks very cool in my book.

Camo on weapons can be very useful if used in a sniper role. Nothing worse than a big black gun out in the weeds, haha.
