Hello everyone! My name is Kris, 30 yrs old, and I'm down from the Monroe area. I've been interested in Airsoft for several years mostly from hearing through friends. I owned a P90 airsoft rifle a few years ago that worked fairly well but I'm starting to lean towards a M4. I'm also looking to start to work on a uniform but I wasn't sure if most airsoft teams tend to shy away from current military uniforms or not or if most teams stick to tactical colors. I was thinking about starting a USAF Combat Controller uniform. I was also looking to getting a M92 Beretta sidearm. I was also curious as if electric would be better over green gas. I'd appreciate any help! I'm also getting ready to apply to the Toledo Police Dept. as most of my family is involved with LE. Thank you for the help!

For the sidearm I would go with a GBB (Gas Blow Back). More realistic and the AEPs (Airsoft Electric Pistols) seem to have poor range. I'm not really knowledgeable on the different manufacturers, but someone else will certainly chime in to help you there. I own two WE 1911 GBBs and they are fun to mess around with, but I've only used them at the Farmington field, because of how tight the field is and because the games are very short. If you are purchasing one because you think it's a minimum requirement or something I would just forget about it. I went to a three day game this year and I never used my pistol. They're cool, but largely unnecessary. For the M4 I would go with an AEG (Airsoft Electric Gun). Not sure if you were considering a GBB for this also. I personally don't like the GBB rifles because the mags are expensive and reloading in the field is further complicated by needing to carry a gas canister. I love my KWA, it's been through hell and back and is still shooting great. G&G also makes some nice guns as well. I think they are annoying to take apart (charging handle spring UGHH), but they make a quality product. Was the P90 a TM or Echo 1? I used to own a TM (see avatar) and I loved it. I still don't know why I got rid of it. TM makes some quality rifles also, but it seems finding them in stock these days is pretty difficult. For a uniform the standard recommendation around here is M81 woodland. The reason being is that it's accepted at 99% of games, unlike some other obscure patterns. Also, some other patterns are hard to define as Tan or Green and so they are sometimes not allowed. The prime example is Multi-Cam. It works well, but it's not the best if you only have one pattern. The USAF guys look like some pretty badass dudes. If you are really looking to put together an accurate impression we have a board dedicated to that. From the google images that popped up is looks like the majority are using M81 woodland, but I also see some guys rolling a tri-color desert pattern too. miairsoft.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=impressionsDon't be afraid to use a pattern that's used by the military. The main thing that people care about is rank insignia, and other tabs etc. Things like Airborne, Ranger, MP, etc. All of these tabs servicemen work very hard for and to put them on our airsoft gear is a disservice to the people who put their lives on the line for us. You'll find that there are a couple people on these boards that won't be happy unless you enlist (regardless of uniform), but to the rest of us those are the only things that will be frowned upon. Also, it's probably illegal as you would be impersonating a servicemen. Not sure what the actual law is, but best just to stick with some plain BDUs. Patches like Zombie Hunter, 1337, Infidel, etc. are OK of course. Welcome to the boards!

Thanks for the help, X. The P90 I had I think was an Echo 1 I had a few years ago. I eventually had to get rid of it since I was hard for cash at the time, but was an extremely accurate rifle. I was thinking for the M4 to go electric from what I've seen. For the uniform, I'm thinking about going woodland. It seems like the USAF CCT's have used a variety of camo, even using a woodland top and a multi-cam pant. I was looking for an opinion on that or if I should stick with one whole woodland piece. I don't plan on putting any service patches on as in a way I think only service members should be wearing them as they have earned them.
Again, thanks for the help X!

Stick with one color scheme for you camo, Multicam tends to get stuck on Tan, and woodland is obviously green. You can't mix them.

Ghast is right. Mixing them up is not really a good idea. Especially mixing with Multi-cam. Doing an OD top with woodland bottoms is usually OK though.

Would an olive drab battle shirt work with woodland bottoms? If so, I think I may go that route. I'm thinking about taking a run to Harry's or Woodland Surplus this weekend. Also, what chest rig should I run with? I'm all new to a loadout.

Olive Drab and Woodland would work pretty well.
Chest Rig wise, there is really no need for anything too fancy when you're starting out. Just a bare bones one from Condor would do (Waits for hate). As in just MOLLE space. It may be better to get one with pre-built stuff, but I feel like it's more awesome with customizeablity of the MOLLE. Don't for the love of god get a Crossdraw vest.

If you are going to the Meet and Greet, I'll sell you my old vest for super cheap to help you out. It's this one. It's not a good vest, but it will work as a starter.

Thank you everyone again for the help.
X - I was also thinking about using multi-cam as I've seen some of the CCT's use it. Would it be better to switch to the multi-cam, or just stick with the od battle shirt top and woodland pants for now? I'm still kind of undecided for the moment. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to attend the meet and greet as much as I would like to, but if possible hold on to that vest. I may want to take that off your hands.
Yo-Yo and Fear - Thank you guys!
Knief - Thanks for the invite!
Hopefully here as soon as I can get some gear together and a rifle as well as a sidearm, I'd like to join you guys out on the field. I've been wanting to do some cqb and outdoor events for quite some time, but gear and a rifle come first. Thanks all!

I would stick with the Woodland/OD Combat shirt. Then later purchase the multicam if that's what you really want. The events that do allow multicam will generally have them be the flip flop group that they place to even the teams. In scenario games you will often find multicam guys are the mercenary or PMC team. I find that you also get team killed more often because it's hard to tell what pattern it is through brush. Because of those additional complications multicam isn't really worth it for the first set. It's also probably more expensive than just buying some the Woodland pants/Combat shirt.
Let me know when you decide to go out to your first game and we'll show you the ropes.
