Another noob question here as I have only done one thing with them: paint them black. But I read that they come off as well. Do they come off of every airsoft gun or just some of them? Also, how do you take them off if you can?

Most AEG's have 14mm threads under them, heat it up and unscrew it, but some of them aren't lefty loosy. Any other orange tip is usually glued on or painted.

As what Sieve said, most AEG's orange flash hiders are glued and screwed on, so you'll have to use a heat gun (works best for me) or equivalent to melt the glue they use to hold the flash hider on. It'd be a good idea to use a metal bristle brush to scrape all the glue off the threads on the gun, as you don't want that kind of crap going into your nice, new flash hider. Some other guns have an orange tip that isn't screwed on but simply glued, my CYMA AK was like that. Just heat it up and pull it off. [EDIT] Be absolutely sure to check for a set screw! I've seen many a screwed thread because someone didnt realize there was a set screw in the flashhider. Not sure how many companies do this anymore, but it doesn't hurt to check it out. From what I've seen, most M4/M16 flash hiders have one. Not too sure on other guns. AK's have a weird button built into the front sight post that you have to push in before you can remove the flash hider.

Not sure how many companies do this anymore, but it doesn't hurt to check it out. Most major companies do, but it depends on the model of the gun. I've noticed that G36 or AK types usually don't have set screws, but almost all M4s I've encountered have some sort of set screw.
