It saddens me deeply that the only Airsoft EBR kit out there is over 1,000 dollars. I would really like to be a DM for my team, but I would like something a little more tactical-looking than your typical M14. Does anyone on here know if parts like lower hand guards and rail systems can be sold separately for the M14? And if not, would I be getting my money's worth saving for the G&G M14 EBR in terms of performance? Thanks in advance everyone.

It might not be top notch quality, but supposedly the Kart EBR bodies are decent. A G&G would be light years ahead, though, its almost guaranteed. Much better standards. Also, if you don't want an EBR body, they make rail systems that replace the hand guard "cap" (can't think of the name, its the ribbed usually plastic part on the top of the gun that's supposed to look like faux wood. I think its a heat shield, not sure)

The Kart body is pretty terrible. It's all soft pot metal and it weighs in the area of 18-22 pounds. That's more than an M249. If you search around for a bit you can find a ton of Kart bodies that are broken in half, cracked, or bent. It's also common for their rails to be out of spec. I would pass on it. The G&G EBR was a limited run and is no longer in production, and as such can be difficult to find for sale. G&G chose to make their body out of magnesium which means it's pretty brittle but only weighs about 11 pounds. The biggest problem with the G&G EBR is the motor cage. It is made of pressed metal powder and has very thin arms that connect it to the gear box. I have snapped mine three times with very little force. The motor cages are difficult to come by and demand a pretty high price when you can find them. I ended up drilling and tapping the assembly together and it works fine. The fire selector/cut off lever/anti reversal latch/spring release assembly is stupidly over complex. Outside of those issues the quality is good. They take special mags that can be somewhat difficult to source. All things considered the G&G EBR is a nice piece of work and is worth the extra money. The biggest thing the G&G/CA M14's have going for them is that the hop up bolts to the gear box. This makes a very solid connection and prevents movement and leaks. The EBR isn't a run and gun platform. It is front heavy and the weight is distributed 65/35, so you will supporting most of the weight with your weak arm. If you plan on adding tactical doo-dads such as a scope, bipod, PEQ, or light you could make the distribution worse. Because the weight is out front and in your weak hand turning quickly with it can be difficult and slow. The pistol grip helps control it but it can be awkward if you don't have enough upper body strength. The EBR is best suited for slow moving support or sniping. The extra weight, pistol grip, and adjustable stock allow for more stable long range shots. If you plan to run with your team and stay close together in fire fights a standard M14 would be much better. If you want a tactical-esque M14 you should look into the G&P M14 DMR. It has an RIS front end and a stock with a pistol grip. That would be a much easier to use in a squad that moves a lot. You can also buy an M14 RIS from several companies that replaces the heat shield. It will allow you to mount things on it and keep your scope more stable. I'm not sure what you mean by lower hand guard, but no one makes a formed fore grip like the EBR for the M14. The fore grip on the EBR covers up rails that the standard M14 doesn't have. Don't forget about the tried and true M16 + ACOG for DM work.

CYMA Also came out with their EBR, but I don't know the build quality, and the metal has a stupid silver shine to it... Who knows, it might be a great upgrading platform, like thier good AK's.

I have thought about using an M16 with an ACOG, but for some reason I don't think it would have that DMR look like the M14 would, I just really liked the way it looked. I appreciate the info on weight distribution, I had no idea it was that much. My other idea, seeing as how in real life it also uses the 7.62x51mm round, is the RSASS. I always thought that one looked pretty cool too (I admit it, I learned about it from MW3, not proud of it) but I have no idea how to build one in Airsoft, any suggestions?
Edit: I have seen that new CYMA EBR, but I have NO idea why they would put the silver finish on it, I just don't like the look of it.

You could use an SR25 as a base for a DMR.

Yeah, I was thinking of an AR10 platform. It might work better.

If you can afford it, that Classic Army AR10 is a great gun.

Great suggestions, thanks guys. I'm more used to assault rifles not DMR's so thanks for your input.
