So, I just spent a lot of time reading a lot of the reviews. To anyone who had problems with ref's, I apologize. I believe I was the only person from Splat refereeing during the game, and there was only one of me. I pulled quiet a few people from the game who I saw get hit but refused to call themselves, but airsoft hits are a lot harder to spot than paintball hits, so it took a keen eye. I was only around for the first half of the game, as I had another engagement to attend.
The very first comment I read had a few suggestions, to which I have this reply: The bases you were using have been used as bases in paintball scenarios as well. The general rule we have is protect your spawn, otherwise things like spawn camping happen. However, had I been around something would have been done to give you a fighting chance off the break. Also, anything built at Splat is done by VOLUNTEERS. No one gets paid, and you give up your own free time to get things done. Keep in mind that this field is mainly used for paintball and we don't have the time/manpower to build boundary lines specifically for one day that would need to be changed the following day. Personally, I think Splat looks pretty good this year, and there has been quiet a lot of work done. Refs at Splat are also volunteers and get nothing out of it but the pleasure of being accidentally shot (a lot) and watching some beautiful teamwork in action. When I was there, I know of only two other refs that were on the field. Three ref's isn't enough for 160+ players. Flaw in the event planning. But I will do my best to make sure we have more Splat Ref's on the field next time around.
We are planning an event, as Ted said, towards the end of the year. All of this input is being taken into account, but please keep in mind that for anything to be built/changed, it takes bodies and time. So if you really want something to change, come out any given Saturday and lend a hand. No one at Splat is making any money off of anything we do, it's all for charity.
We would love to see you guys out there again, and if you have any suggestions/projects you would like to talk about AND contribute to, drop by our website and let us know (Splatmandu.com). Thanks!
