I'm not so much a noob but I've been out of it for while. I knocked the dust off my old M4 and it needs a new battery. I see some of you running Lipo batteries. Is there a benefit to that or is it just personal choice. Thanks-

There is a massive benefit you get a higher rate of fire and the trigger response is way faster. Just make sure you get a mosfet for protection as well as have your gearbox reinforced or that lipo will tear it apart.

For a given amount if stored energy, a LiPo, weighs less and is smaller. They also don't have an issue with memory, so you don't have to fully discharge before charging. So whenever you have a chance to charge it, you can do just that.
In response to previous post, I'd you have a 2nd gen KWA, your good to go. I have about 15k rounds through mine, with no issues, running a 11.1V LiPo.

Thanks guys. I think the one that I bought from a guy on the board comes with a 11.1V 1300mAH Li-Po so I'm hoping it's enough to run my gun right.

11.1 is plenty.

Assuming the C rating is adequate.

A mosfet is a necessity with running 11.1V and up, as running that powerful of a battery without one will scorch your trigger contacts.
Other then that, just make sure your gun is shimmed well and that nothing is terribly wrong in your gearbox. You should look into correcting the Angle of Engagement using a Sorbothane pad as well. This will greatly increase your guns longevity.

I can attest to the contact scorching part. I've had a 11.1 LiPo running through my new rifle and didn't think anything of not having a MOSFET in it until this last session of break down and found not only had the trigger contact shattered, the contacts looked like they had been fried. I went and tested with a contact from another gun and I could watch the contacts arc almost every time and apparently, that's REALLY bad for all kinds of internals.

OK, Now I WILL sound like a noob since they didn't use those when used to play. I had to look what a mosfet was. I'll be running my M4 off a battery in the peq box. Where would the mostfet attach? Thanks again for all the help guys.
