There have been some threads on this recently but I haven't really found the information that I've been seeking. I've spent at least a few days looking around and I haven't found much in the line of information on these headsets. I'm looking for a Frogman(?) style headset, at least I think that's the name. My budget is <$100.00 Linkage... www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=29_346&products_id=6383Now I have a Motorola Talkabout T9500 I'm mainly looking for something that's unobtrusive and provides clear communications. I am aware that this is mostly the part of the radio, but I don't want a junk headset that just spews static (who would?). The headset that I linked to above appears to be decent, but I can only base that assumption on the price. The thing that I'm wondering is if this other headset is any different. www.evike.com/product_info.php?cPath=30_135&products_id=33068&osCsid=e36cf25444d50070dd67a12ee67e2540It looks to be the same. Only thing that I can say with certainty is that it appears to not include the PTT button. Does anyone have experience with either of these headsets? If there is another that better suits what I'm looking for, I'm open to suggestions. Also, I'm not interested in ComTacs in case that gets brought up. I have a similar set of hearing protection for the real range and I just don't think I would care for that in an airsoft headset.

I have the Evike version, and the PTT shown right below it.
I've had zero issues with it and actually like having the open ear as apposed to the dual ear cups of the comtacs.
You're welcome to check them out on saturday.

Pagan, I'll definitely take you up on that offer. Problem is all of those PTT buttons are out of stock.

Yeah X, I have the same A.C.M one that I purchased off of RSOV with a P.T.T that I use with a $20 Talkabout. And it works very well. It's clear and audible. The only downside is that when wearing with a helmet and full seal goggles the ear piece will get pressed up against your ear and after a day of using it ends up being a little painful. But I use an IBH and think that switching over to like a Mich 2001 or an OPS CORE will fix the issue.

ahh I don't know about that PTT the button looks mighty small for my fat fingers...
Looks like my only option is to get one from overseas or throw my money at ASGI.

I have the PTT that Pagan linked. The "button" isn't even a button. It's actually a toggle.

I have used two of the Bowman style headsets over the past couple years. While I do like the style and comfort, they both crapped out on me. My last one will receive just fine however when transmitting there is no sound. The headset/radio is transmitting, but nothing comes through. Just beware, based on what Pagan and Gunny have experienced maybe I just have bad luck with them.

I'm actually on my second one as well. The first one I bought used and worked for a while but eventually it stopped transmitting. However I believe the 2nd one I own is definitely a newer version and I've been making an effort of taking much better care of it by putting it back in its box after I use it.

I have one of those ACM headsets mentioned above.
Aside from mine being quite loud even with the volume lowered, it has (so far) offered clear reception and transmission. The headset and PTT seem low quality, but I don't baby them in the least. The external wiring on each seems pretty thick and flexible. With some of the non-milspec commercial headsets, the wires always look pretty thin and brittle and I'd worry about getting them snagged and having them tear. No such worries with the ACM version.
As far as the different headset styles, I have the "bowman" style that features the open vents around the ear as opposed to the suction cup type set-up like the "frogman." I've never used a "frogman" type headset, but it seems like you wouldn't want something entirely covering your ear. With the "bowman" style I can hear normally out of both ears.
As Gunny wrote, these headsets do get uncomfortable after wearing them for a few hours. I tend to wear mine over a baseball cap or I wear a watch cap/winter hat and have part of the cap cover my ear and let the headset broadcast through the hat material. That way the headset isn't pressing directly on my ear, but on the material of the cap.
My experience using these in the field has been mixed. I have attended games where comms came in very, very handy in keeping track of fellow players and organizing attack/defense, etc. In recent games, however, there has been so much chatter, so much mashing of the call button and so many garbled transmissions that I often turn my radio off or leave it in the car. I have seen some players using police style handsets that clip to their gear and with one of these I think I could tolerate all the chatter, but with a headset right next to my ear it is nigh impossible.

Gimpalong, you must have been to Persian Winter, on the Green team. I was about to lose it with all the call button mashing!

Well at Global Betrayal it was fantastic. Lot's of good communication, only heard the call button a couple times. I did find that if I'm using my radio a lot it will get into a battery state where it doesn't have enough power to transmit. I assume this based on when I push the PTT button the radio transmits for about .5 second then appears to restart. It was able to listen the rest of the day, but I wasn't able to transmit. Out of curiosity has anyone seen this?
In any case, the Comms were so helpful in the last game. The field was just so damn huge, it helped so much to communicate with the CO, get new orders, and regroup with the squad.

I had this happen as well, but it happened when I was just using the radio it's self, not with the PTT. I use Motorola talkabouts, and I've found if I use anything less than name brand batteries, by the end of the day I'm having issues with transmitting.
This may just be with my units, but I've found using better batteries enabled me to not have any issues through an entire days play.

My Motorola Talk-about also wouldn't transmit when the battery power was low and did exactly what X was describing. And that was just with using the walkie itself.
