Ok so this is a pretty huge noob question. What brands are considered clones, I always see people say NO clones in there commerce thread. Then I see someone offer a gun with a 2gx gearbox and get told that they said no clones. Basically what brands are considered clones I feel like there is a major variance in what people consider a clone.

Technically, everything is a clone of TM's original design. People who say "No Clones" usually refer to JG, CYMA and D-Boys, although I consider those people ignorant.

Any AEG that's not a Tokyo Marui.... That's what I was thinking besides kwa with their new GB design and ICS with their split GB.

In the past, many Chinese airsoft manufacturers were truly "cloning" Tokyo Marui rifles. For example, the Cyma CM0280 and the A&K S-System, two of the earliest "clones," were basically straight up copies of Marui rifles. In recent years, however, many of the so-called "clone" companies have produced rifles that no one else had previously produced. A recent example is A&K, who were the first to produce a Magpul Masada rifle. Similarly, another "clone" company (the manufacturer name escapes me at the moment) produced the first F2000 replica.
So while these companies were "cloning" TM guns, some produced original rifles that no one had previously manufactured. The result is that it has become a bit more fashionable (or accurate) to refer to "clone" companies as All China Made (ACM). Still, most of these companies remain copy-cats who produce products that range from extremely dubious to "works pretty good out of the box, but could be better" quality.
ACM companies include Dboys, JG, CYMA, JP, KS (?), KART and a host of others. In the United States, newer players are typically only familiar with the guns being produced by these ACM manufacturers under their rebranded names such as UTG, Echo 1 or Cybergun. Hence why you see people posting things like "WTS: Cybergun AK47." The reality, however, is that companies like UTG, Cybergun or Echo 1 don't actually produce anything and may be rebranding both ACM and non-ACM rifles. Echo 1, for example, rebrands a whole host of rifles from higher-end, non-ACM companies like VFC (IIRC).
Anyway, yeah, when people say "no clones," they are talking about Chinese brands like Cyma, JG, etc.

As far as I know the only F2000s on the market are the G&G and the JLS. Being that JLS is a cheap chinese brand I am going to believe that is what you were referring to. I agree, really most people say clone implying a ACM product with crappy quality control and usually pretty bad parts (exception to certain products like JG gears and motors, although their ARs have ugly gray bodies).

Most of the new JGs that I've seen come with the blue neo magnet motors which are among the best on the market. The stock gears definitely aren't weak by any means, I'd take them over most stock gearsets and a lot of aftermarket gears in a heartbeat.

Not quite sure if you say that from ignorance or something else? Care to share your recent JG experiences?

In all fairness, it's my opinion. So you can't really argue with it.

Well there are some uneducated info going around and some "overpriced" stuff companies's marketing ploy work on some people.
I based my opinion and view on the design and limitation per dollar on particular product and it's intended design use instead of what the marketing brochure print.

Here's where my main confusion comes in, where do companies like ares, star, VFC and KA come into play?

It's all subjective, and it may vary depending on which specific model you're referring to. A company might make one or two innovative models but still make M4 replicas that are blatant Marui clones. One person might think that JG is just another shitty clone brand, and a different person might say that JG is fine but DBoys is totally unacceptable. These companies make thousands of guns per year and any given person only touches a tiny fraction of them, so unless someone starts gathering reliable data from 500+ people with a given model, this will always be a matter of personal opinion and risk tolerance.
