Hey guys, my name is Dylan and I am new to airsoft. I don't really have any experience but I would really like to get into it. My friend's and I are all trying to have backyard battles but we find it really boring in closed spaces. I have always been interested in the scout sniper role. Would you suggest that role or something else? Thanks for the help guys!

First of all, welcome to the forums. Second, "backyard battles" are heavily frowned upon around here, for reasons stated in some other threads (I'm on my phone, so I can't really link them that easily. I may edit later with links). Third, it is not recommended that new players attempt to be snipers, as it takes a lot of practice and a lot of money spent to become decent. It is recommended that you start off as a rifleman for a few years and then, if you feel you are ready, start becoming an airsoft sniper.

Okay, cool. Do you know of any cheap airsoft sights I can look at to see any good guns?

There is a comprehensive list of trusted retailers on the left side of the main page of this forum. I would recommend looking at some of them.

The most highly recommended starter gun on these boards is the G&G Combat Machine. It's performance can't be beat for it's price, $140. You can buy it at sites like Airsoft GI, Airsoft Atlanta, Airsoft Smith, etc. It does not come with a battery or charger, however, so you would have to buy those separately. Also, make sure that you have quality ANSI rated eye protection, and don't cheap out on shitty BBs from Walmart/Dunhams/insert sporting goods store here.

I see that in your picture you have a full face mask, should I get one of those?

Well, that all depends on what your style of gameplay is. I run that facemask for indoor CQB, and I use a pair of Bolle X1000 full-seal goggles for outdoor games. Goggles allow you to get a better cheek weld and tend to fog less than facemasks, but leave your face pretty exposed.
Edit: the facemask is made by Save Phace, if you are interested.

Alright I'll take it into consideration. Now when you say that the combat machine doesn't come with a battery what battery should I get for it?

Crapshoot is essentially spot on; However, I'm gonna break things down for you. Welcome to the boards, I can tell that you will get a long here. Please use all the resources within the forums itself to aid you in your quest for being a successful player. E.g, use the Event boards to scope out local games, use the AEG section to ask any specific questions about technical issues or research for a particular gun, etc... We won't stick around and hastily answer every question you throw at us on this thread; all of your questions have been answered and elaborated already elsewhere. So, with that being said, please read ALL of the stickies (red-pinned) posts located at the top of the page Here: miairsoft.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=newb^ Those threads will answer all of your questions you may have and you won't be shunned by the rest of the community when you ask them elsewhere. In your search for a new gun, you will want to choose everything you see and ask us "is this a good gun." Well, that can be answered very subjectively, being that everyone has good/bad/no experience with that particular gun you are looking at. If you are interested in a particular gun, it would be in your best interest to do some research that is objective on your own. You know, compare and contrast to other possible interests. You may ask specific questions about a certain gun that you think may be strange, uncommon, or can't find answeres elsewhere, but "which gun should I get" won't fly. The mods will eat you. However, there is one beginner AEG that everyone here will agree on; the G&G Combat Machine M4. Bam. www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_24_237&products_id=4587Your done. This replica offers the BEST quality/price ratio. G&G has one of the highest standards of quality. JG does not. please read and consider our advice, because after all, you are the noob. Not saying that I wasn't one too...

Okay, I've been thinking a lot and I need to know a few things. Does any field require you to wear camo or anything at there places? Does anyone know of any places I can purchase camo for a low price? And also who lives near the Detroit area? Thanks, Fantom x!

Fields only require camo in mil-sim type games, any army navy surplus store should have bdu's, and there are quite a few of us here in the general Detroit area.
