Depends. The biggest advantage is reaction time, it is much easier to line up a dot than it is to align iron sights. For airsoft, the benefit over irons is significant in my opinion. Irons can be better at extreme ranges with real steel, but this does not apply for us.

Do sights and help out with accuracy as much as people say they do? When i say sights i mean optics, excluding iron sights. Please use your shift key. It's "I" not "i". I don't think optics help a lot with accuracy as such, but they improve speed and, since there are so many mounting options for them, ergonomics. I play with a full mask and it's almost impossible for me to get a sight picture with irons on most guns. I can put an Aimpoint or Holosight on a cantilever, riser, or stack of mounting devices and put it at a more convenient height. I'm also a larger guy and shorter stocks tend to put sights a little closer to my face than I prefer, and with optics I can address that as well.

Obviously a real steel is more durable than a replica. In terms of lenses tho, I have seen many replicas with shot out lenses. I dont recall seeing any real steels ones being shot out. I have seen a few Real 553's with shot out Windows (Front/Glass.) The rear is usually intact. The real holo-sight is extremely durable. A clone on the other hand is crap. My 552 (G&P) is so tinted it's borderline useless. I say borderline because when aiming down sight I have both eyes open which creates the full image needed and maintains full perception of your surroundings.

I have a real deal eotech 553, it's probably the best non magnification optic I have had. CQBR had his shot out twice it one day at phoenix tactical and it still worked even though the front glass was cracked and missing in some places.
