They probably would, but I don't know if anyone has ever bothered with that before.
And I'm pretty sure either the G&P or the Hurricane 553's should be close to the correct color, but I'm guessing you're trying to not spend that much money.

Why not just paint your clone's hood and battery compartment?

Why not just paint your clone's hood and battery compartment? Wouldn't be able to see the lettering on them and whatnot, he might be the kind of person who's anal about that. I would be.

I wouldn't say I'm anal about the lettering, but so far I haven't seen an eotech clone that is really that close to the real one, even the G&P or hurricane, which yeah, I'm not gonna spend $200 on a fake eotech when I could get a 551 or 552 for probably just a little more than that if I looked around, but that is besides the point since I want a 553. Painting is also an option, but it seems like it would be hard to find the exact same colors of paint as the real one, which I don't even own or have access to in order to compare them directly. I have thought of just doing a full krylon coat on it, but unless I completely krylon the entire gun, which is not my intent, then it would look like I was just trying to hide the eotech's bad color.

I was told that this is the closest FDE color match 553 for a decent price. I can't speak from personal experience as I don't have it...yet, but at first glance it looks pretty good to me. Granted its a a little dark, but at least it isn't bronzed or goldish colored. boomarms.com/shop/item.cfm/id/ACM-RD-553-DE

Honestly, if you get that one, takes some pics and post them, cause I'd like to see some pics other than what they show. However, knowing what a real eotech 553 looks like, I can spot several things that are wrong with that one right off the bat.
1. The entire thing is all one color. The real one actually has three different colors of tan. 2. The throw levers are tan/gold. They should be black. 3. It doesn't seem like that color really matches any of the three finishs on the real one, but if you are getting one, maybe you can tell me.
From what I know, the real eotech has the three different colors of tan, and black throw levers. If I could get the real hood and battery cover, I could then spraypaint the base part with krylon khaki, since that part is fairly light on the real one from all the pics I have seen. I could then paint the throw levers black, and I would then have a clone eotech with real trademarks that is darn close to the color of the real one. Any comments or ideas? Anyone know where to source an authentic eotech FDE battery cover?

I'm probably not getting it as I just bought a used one that was hit with some Khaki Krylon...which I actually like better considering all the color variations of other clones.

Thanks for the links. It's actually not that I have a problem spending over $200 on a sight, it's just that if I do pay that much I expect it to be perfect, which the HurricanE is not. I believe I have also heard that the aabb one is really decent, so I might have to give that one a try. The paint on the throw levers looks really sloppy, but it should be an easy fix. I think I will probably go with that one, then I'll see about real parts once I see the coloring in real life.

I thought I would give a little update, so here goes. I recieved the aabb 553 from redwolf yesterday, and as of now I am having mixed feelings on it. The red and green reticules are nice and clear, and all of the buttons work just fine. I have, however had a few issues that you guys might be able to help me on. 1. The fit on my G&P m4 upper was quite sloppy, whereas the fit on the two other rails I tried it on (Socom Gear mk18 ris II and a G&P KAC rail) was really tight. Has anyone else noticed this before with G&P uppers? I ended up using some tape to shim it for a nicer fit, and now it seem fine, but that was a bit dissapointing. 2. This is the main problem. The glass of the sight is extremely reflective, and also has a weird sort of foggy tint to it. In a nice bright setting where the light is ambient (no lights shining directly on the glass or right around it) I can see through it fine. When I am indoors and it is dark out and there is light shining from an incandescent bulb, the reflection is horrible. I look into it and all I see is a reflection of my face. Am I missing something here? I have checked and there dosen't seem to be any sort of peel off protector for the glass. Does this sound normal for a replica? If I can figure out this problem, then I will go ahead and order the real eotech parts, but if I can't resolve it, I really don't think that it will even be worth the cool factor.

It must be a replica thing. I've had both a G&P 552 and now a 553 and they both had that weird reflective thing going on. It's annoying as all hell, but (in my opinion anyway) it's still better than spending $300+ on a sight for airsoft. Now, if you shoot real steel then that's a different story.

Really? Anyone else have the same issue? It seriously make the thing almost unusable.

One of the biggest problems with replicas is the mirrored rear glass. I have a G&P that has a terribly reflective rear lens. If I try to use it all I see is my eye looking back. I moved the EO Tech as far back as I could against the rear sight. I wear a baseball hat when I play and the brim of my hat helps form a visor for the EO Tech. It makes it use able, but it's far from ideal.
I don't know why the rear lens is so reflective. At first I thought they were reflective because of the way they work, but I have an unknown brand 552 and the lenses are not reflective at all.
My only thought is that maybe when they are putting the units together they put the rear lens in backward.

The possibility that they put the rear lens in backwards does seem logical, and I certainly wouldn't be suprised if that was the case. Could you give me a link to which eotech your 552 is? I am actually considering transplanting the innards of another eotech replica into the 553 base. I already tore mine down, and the actual part that is the sight (the whole block with the lenses and controls, etc. seems really generic. I'm thinking that any replica eotech insides might fit.
I can post pics of mine soon, but I was wondering if you or anyone else might be able to post pics of the insides of your eotechs to compare. (mirrored or not, I really don't care. I just want to see if they are the same before I go buying another one) Hopefully that is not too much to ask, but I already have the real battery cover on the way, so I really want to make this thing usable.
Thanks!
