Mrs. Knief is set on getting something obnoxious for her, so I'm looking for a manly diaper bag. Generally we're talking about a messanger bag with lots of pouches somewhere in the neighborhood of 12x12x4, though dimensions are flexible. Ideally, we're talking MOLLE equipped and under $50. Anybody have any suggestions?

Not exactly MOLLE, but is ginormous and already has a varied assortment of pouches on the front of it. www.lapolicegear.com/jumbo-bailout-bag.htmlMost of the rest of the proper messenger bags or even sling bags are at least twice your current price range. I'll keep looking though, see if I come across anything worthwhile.

I use the Hazard4 M.O.D. Bag which would fit all your specs except the price. Its ballpark $100. The fact that I use it as a daily for classes means I can tell you outright it will hold up to almost anything. I bike with it daily and yeah, I go about twice as fast as everyone else so yeah I tend to hit people sometimes and I go down. I may get scraped up but the bag doesn't have a scratch. Its got a detachable flag and front panel has MOLLE on it. The interior main compartment has MOLLE too. it sports a waterproof laptop compartment and MOLLE on the sides as well for other pouches. Again, its twice your budget but will last a lifetime. **Clips and buckles are all tan unlike the prototype bag in the pic** www.hazard4.com/products_mod.html

Yeah, cost has been my downfall so far. Looks like I might just have to spend a little more than I had planned. That hazard4 bag looks perfect if I can convince the Mrs. Thanks for the help gentlemen. If you come across anything else, put it up.
[Edit]
Dahm,
How adjustable is the flap on the MOD bag? If I throw some m4 mag pouches on the webbing on the front for bottle storage (because that's how men fucking do it), am I going to have enough slack in the flap fastening system to get it closed?

I will preface this by saying that I am not an owner of a baby, but I did check the wikipedia entry for "diaper bag" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diaper_bag). Doesn't having two diaper bags sort of defeat the purpose of the bag itself? Isn't the diaper bag meant to be basically a "go-bag" for a baby? You can't exactly get out and "go" if you have to transfer all the baby accouterments from your wife's bag to yours. I'm all for tacticool accessories, but this seems a little excessive. You'd probably save money and time by just using the bag your wife picked out. Yes, you'll be less cool, but since you've already got a baby you've pretty much tossed all opportunities to be cool out the window anyway. Despite my above comment, it might be a good idea to "field" your wife's bag for a few weeks/a few outings with the kid and then decide on what you need from a more tacticool bag. No sense in buying an expensive bag if you aren't entirely sure what you'll need to be carrying, etc, etc. I've had good luck with Maxpedition gear. Take some time to peruse their selection. www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/Bags-Cases-c13.htmYou might also check out: www.diaperbags.com/daddy-diaper-bags/5354+5358.cfm if you want something less tacticool and more practicool.

Generally, you've got the right idea gimpalong (and I love calling a diaper bag a "baby go-bag." I'm doing that from now on). But most baby accouterments is many and [semi-]disposable. So the we'd have each packed with diapers, wipes, changing pads, pacifiers, and such. Any perishables like snacks and milk, you'd keep in the fridge and pantry anyway. We wouldn't be transferring, we'd each just have a bag packed. At the risk of sounding out of touch with my feminine side, I'm not walking around carrying something like this if I can avoid it at reasonable cost. I saw the UTG and it just doesn't look big enough to me. Condor also has something similar, and that's too small as well. They also make this which is similar in compartment size, but offers more MOLLE space for adding some external pockets for easy one handed access.

Knief, if you haven't already chosen, I recommend the messenger bags from Timbuk2: www.timbuk2.com/tb2/products/messenger/I have used mine for school, camping, hiking, and travel and it's still going good. They are waterproof and highly durable, also unique. Granted they are about double your price range, and have no MOLLE on them. However, it is something you can use later in life and not just for diapers.

I can get them for 55 locally, so probably like 65 shipped. My wife used it as her diaper bag for a while as well. -edit- In the link I posted earlier, check the attache section (or quote this post to see the address to the pic, it is not hot-linking it.

All you guys posting $100+ bags seem to have missed the fact that he has a budget of fifty bucks. Honestly anything over 40 or 50 bucks is a waste.. Really you are best off just sharing whatever diaper bag that she picks out, trust me once the baby is born you wont care about looking like a goof.
Just share a bag or buy the cheapest manly looking bag you can find.

Baby has been born, and he still cares about looking like a goof. However, it's too late for that. You are right that he only has a budget of $50 though.
