Hey everyone. I just picked up a VFC Umarex H&K 416 as some of you in the Airsoft Discussion board might have read last week. And my only real serious complaint - aside from my battery issue, was that the magazine was horrible.
The magazine came with a little winding tool that was absolutely awful. I've still not ever played Airsoft in a fielded game, just merely shot targets in my garage so far. But even that being said, I can't imagine having to play on a field where people are shooting at you and having to stop and pull out the little wrench like tool they give you to wind your magazine 50-60 shots in. And more importantly, what man excels at finding the hole on a good day ( ;D). This hole for the tool is TINY. Ridiculous trying to fit into, especially when in a hurry.
Anywho, my post isn't about the 416 magazine, its about the two Lonex-M4 High Speed Flash Magazines I just picked up from Evike this week. For anyone who is wondering about buying one of these to replace your manual winding magazine, I'd recommend it. From what I can tell, one pull of the cable on these magazine will equal quite a few rotations of the winder.
That being said, after filling the magazine and inserting it into my 416 initially, it took about 3 or 4 pulls to get it wound tight to begin shooting. So in my test firing, I let off about maybe 150-200 rounds before I started to dry fire. Easily enough, I just pop the cover off the bottom of the magazine, pull the string 3 or 4 more times, close cover, resume laying down the hurt. It was a surprisingly quick process. After the rewind I was able to finish off the rest of the clip.
A few issues I have with the magazine though. First of all, Evike's website advertises the clip to only require one simple pull from start to finish to use the entire magazine. I don't know what kind of black magic physics work at Evike's HQ but this definitely wasn't the case for me. Granted, the guy on the phone I spoke with prior to buying did say I would have to stop half way to wind despite what the website said.
And my only other issue with the magazines was simply that the lip to the cover required to pop off to reveal the pull string is a little awkward. I bite my nails a lot so I can imagine trying to scramble in-game to get that cover off could be a little irritating in the same manner where I'd like to throw my cell phone against the wall when trying to remove the battery cover for it. I imagine sooner or later I might just remove it all together. I also imagine playing with gloves could make the task that much tougher but eh, maybe it's just me.
So for anyone who might have seen the video of the Lonex magazines online as an alternative to traditional style winding magazines. I recommend at least giving them a try, they're a pretty good equal to traditional winding magazines, but overall I think only certain people may find a real good use for them. It looks like it might be a hit or miss product.
