Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a mich 2001 replica from a US retailer, as I'd rather avoid buying overseas if possible. The trouble I am having is finding a replica that fits my requirements. What I need is a helmet that comes pre drilled for a three hole mount so I can install a norotos three hole. This is the type of thing I'm looking for. www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=8160My problem is that I can't find it in stock anywhere. All I can find in stock is the version with the side rails, which I am not interested in. I could just buy one with the side rails and take them off, but I'd rather not spend extra money if I don't need to. If anyone knows of a helmet that meets these specs please let me know. Tan/khaki color is preferable, but I'm really not too concerned with color, since that is what krylon is for. ;D Also, one more question. I'd like to go for the most realistic option, and I know that the type of helmet I linked to above is made of abs plastic. Some replicas such as the voodoo tactical version are supposedly made of fiberglass. Would those have a more realistic weight and finish? www.weaponblender.com/index.php?productID=2239Thanks in advance!

Wow, I figured that this would be fairly easy to find, but after checking a few of my favorite US retailers, I can't seem to find one either. However, if you do go with the version with the side rails, it isn't terribly hard to drill for a norotos mount. Just set the mount on there how you want it, mark the holes with a sharpie, and go at it with the right size drill bit. And if you don't want those rails, send me a PM. I'd gladly buy them off you, nice to have another ASM member on here. The fiberglass definitely feels much better in weight and texture compared to ABS helmets. If you can find one, I'd recommend it. EBAirsoft and EhobbyAsia have them as last resorts.

Yeah, I may just go with the version with the side rails. I have seen it for about $35 on HK sites, so I may do just that. If the helmet comes with an ops core style mount I won't have to drill new holes for a norotos will I?
Were you thinking of doing the IBH mod with those side rails to make a FAST replica? As for ASM, what is your username on there?
I guess another option would be to just buy a fiberglass helmet such as the voodoo version and drill for a three hole mount. I'm not really too concerned about the drilling process itself, but more about finding the center for marking the holes without the mount being crooked or anything. However, I do have a theory of how to get it exact, but it is hard to explain. If I try it and it works, then I'll post it.
Anyone have any opinions on the Voodoo replica? I saw somewhere that it is size large. Any word on the fit? I have a fairly small head, and I'd rather not have it be like a bucket.

Looks like that pretty much seals the deal for me. Unless the fiberglass ones are way better, then I'll probably get that one.

I just eyeballed it when I drilled for my Norotos 1-hole and it came out fine. If it is crooked or off to one side, neither myself nor anybody else has noticed.
As for ASM, my username is the same as it is on here. I dont think I even have 10 posts, but I've read nearly every post on every thread within the past couple months, and I've learned so much. It's far and away the number one resource for anything tech-related. A lot of times it makes me wish that MIA had more lenient velocity restrictions so I could put more of that information to good use.

Ah, yeah, I'm normally just a lurker on asm, if I have anything I need to know, I post, but normally I don't because I don't feek like I can contribute much seeing as there are many more qualified techs on there, and I have very little experience.
I think I will just go with the abs version for now, since it will save me the trouble of drilling, but maybe at some point I'll try out the fiberglass kind if I ever decide to try another style of helmet such as a mich 2000.

If you ever plan on going for a MICH 2000, you might as well spend a few bucks more and buy a real one. With the proper amount of waiting and lurking on eBay, you could easily score one for $150 shipped, which isn't THAT much more than the fake ones. It's really only the real 2001's and 2002's that go for large amounts. You can find 2000's all day every day.

Figured I would chime in here instead of starting a new thread.
I'm in the same boat....I would love to find a nice 01' replica out there - I don't mind the side rails at all, but I would prefer it to have a NVG mount installed and made out of fiberglass. I know the Chinese sites have them, but I'm concerned about the sizes. I have a 00' replica from EB, but it's way too small for my American sized head. My spidey sense tells me that an American retailer/company may make something better suited for me. Anyone have any input on this?

I can let you know how my '01 is when I get it, but it isn't fiberglass. As for the mich 2000, I would definitely get a real one from ebay if I ever decide to get a 2000. I have seen them on there before and they are dirt cheap, and real gear is always way cooler. My only problem is that a mich 2001 is hard to find, when they pop up on ebay they are ridiculously expensive, and the only other option that I know of is buying one form grey group for like $550.

Nah, it's not so much that, it's just too narrow. I think I just ended up with one that was modeled after a smaller size.

Okay, so I got this mich 2001 from ASGI on Wednesday. www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=8160I believe that it might actually be fiberglass, contrary to the fact that GI claims that it is abs. The weight is pretty decent, I don't have a way to weigh it properly, but I would estimate that it is somewhere around 2 or 3 pounds. Also, when I removed the ops core style nvg mount, I noticed that under the paint, the material that holes were drilled through was a white color. I can post up pics later to show you guys what I mean. I just hope that it is still visible since I didn't protect the holes when I hit it with some krylon khaki. Overall I'd say this was a pretty good purchase, but there are a couple flaws that I noticed. 1. The strap system sucked, but I believe that this problem is the same on the real deal simply due to the strap design. I have a fairly small head, and I couldn't adjust the strap small enough and still have the straps go around my ears if that makes any sense. Either way, I already ordered an ops core h nape, which happened to be more than the helmet itself. ;D 2. The rough texture to the helmet appears to be simply sprayed on, similar to the rock texture spraypaint you can buy. This is my first replica helmet, so I don't know if others have a spray on texture, but the texture on mine was sprayed on right over the mounting bolts. This was easily solved by sanding the crap off and repainting the bolts, but it was still kind of annoying. 3. This is really the worst part, but it is still not that big of an issue. On the edge in the center of the back is crack in the raised edge. I don't believe that it is caused by damage, I think that the raised edge that goes around the whole helmet is just a piece of fiberglass/plastic that is folded onto the edge of the rest of the helmet. They must have done a sloppy job where the two ends met in the back, causing the noticable gap. This is the one thing that was a bit annoying to me, but I'll probably just clean it up with some epoxy and then it won't even be visible. All in all, I'd say it's a decent helmet, but obviously there are some problems as I pointed out above. Out of the box (but after paint to get rid of the ugly green color) I would give it about a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10. This is mainly because of the fact that it is useless to me until my ops core strap arrives, and also because the fit is a tiny bit big on my head, hopefully something that won't be noticable once I get some comtac II's or sordins. Obviously for someone else my rating might be higher if it fit him out of the box, which I would expect, since it is only a tiny bit big for me. The helmet did come with several pieces of sort of foliage green adhesive velcro, but it seems like pretty poor quality stuff compared to the actual velcro brand milspec velcro that I used on it. The only thing I guess I haven't covered is the padding. There isn't much to say about it really, it seems nice and soft, and there is a lot of it. I actually removed some and rearranged the pads for a nicer fit. Hopefully this overview will be useful for someone out there. It would likely fit you dynamo, as it doesn't appear to be a tiny size. I'll hopefully have some pics up soon.
