After I heard that the Hellfish may be considering putting on a night game at No Limits it has me thinking: What kind of nightvision do people use around here? When I did a simple google search it only came up with the 2500-3500 dollar+ military grade models and I cannot image someone would drop that much just to play airsoft with it.
So, question is, whats the best quality but lowest price NVG monocular? I know they will be expensive but I just figured I'd see what people could find/suggested.
Thanks a ton.

You're going to want something that's at least Gen 2+. Anything less than that isn't really worth the money.
Which, you're probably looking at $1000 bucks and up. There's been some set ups that are essentially PVS-14 bodies with Gen 2+ guts in them rather than Gen 3 that have gone for in the 800 dollar range, but otherwise, it's probably going to be a hefty investment.

As thor mentioned, look into Sight Owl AVSMA9s. Price is around 900-1000USD. If you get lucky you can get PVS14s pretty damn cheap as well, but that's rare.

Most people just use their natural vision, ninja skills, flashlights, and humor.

Or you could get the pair of NVG that come with Call of duty modern warfare 2 prestige edition for about 75 bucks. i heard they are not bad, but arent the best

Umm, no. Those aren't even Generation 1 night vision. They're equivalent to a video camera with night filming capabilities, but worse. You have no or very poor depth of field when wearing them. And forget actually being able to wear them and sight down the barrel of your gun, they're huge.
Like I said before and Knife said (couldn't remember the model name so thanks buddy) go with the Sight Owl AVSMA9's at MINIMUM. Anything less and you're pretty much just wasting money.

Also, on Arnies Airsoft in the Gear Section there is a guide to cheap airsofting night vision. Worth a read if you're seriously looking into some. Can't link it right now, but it should be fairly easy to find.

Thanks for the replys. Yeah I figured it would probably be a very large chunk of change to get my hands on some nicer ones. Seeing as I don't have $1000 to drop on nvg's at the moment they'll be waiting for some time.
Cool to get an idea of what to look for though, can't wait for some night games. Thanks again everyone.

Thanks again everyone. -Dan Give me 1000$ and I'd rather just spend it on a Systema PTW . Realistically, night games are only fun if you can see where you are going and everyone has tracers. Epic shit right there. Have you seen this?

Tracers are pretty useless TBH. They only give your position away while playing. The BoE guys in that clip are just dicking around using those.
You are right about everyone having them though. If everyone was required to have them, it would be a different breed of night Op.
For the NODS stuff. Thor is right, don't even bother with anything if it's less than a Gen2. The players with real NODS will only laugh as your Gen.1 with IR illuminator lights you up like a Christmas tree as you find your way through the woods.

This might help clear up any questions people have about NVG's. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_vision_deviceBasically, the reason you will want to go Gen 2 or higher is two-fold. If you try to go with a Gen 0 device, which uses an infrared light source (such as the Call of Duty goggles or those spy goggles they sell at department stores), you will be quite illuminated to anyone else using night vision, as they will see your IR light source too. If you go with a Gen 1 device, you will need significant ambient moonlight to see anything, and even then the image quality will be poor. So if it's cloudy or a moonless night, it won't work at all. Gen 2 and 3 are capable of amplifying much smaller sources of light to create an image.

Everything these guys said is right. I'd like to just make one more small point. Look around at the next day time No Limits game and ask yourself, "How many of these guys have night vision?" I'd count zero, with a .01% chance that Kurt's nephew loaned him a real set but no that doesn't even make sense. If there's a game at No Limits in the dark, everybody else will be fumbling around in the dark just like you. Luckily, there aren't a lot of trees, so if we do get a bright moon, it'll light things up pretty well.

I. Love. Night. Games.
There are a lot of techniques to enhance natural night vision. For example, the lower your head is to the ground, the better you can see in the dark. Keep in mind that they can't see either. Ambushes, scaring the shit out of people, friendly fire, knife kills. I see nothing but excellence.
And I make like $100 a week, I won't have real NVGs anytime soon. I won't be one of the guys with them. I'll probably pull the old pirate technique, to be honest.

Everyone with NODs show up to the next NL game just to prove Knief wrong. A night game there would be pretty awesome however.
Honestly, playing a night game with NODs when others don't is almost cheating. Having looked through cqbr's at PT last year it was insane. Thus, I just got a set today as well. Save pennies + find good deals = awesome stuff.
