Anybody use them in CQB games (you know, those little mirror wand things that SWAT guys use to check around corners)? This is one of the things I could really use for CQB, especially in last Sunday's game at PT before I decided to jump into a bunkered room without my grenade launcher. -_-; I'm looking at Amazon.com for some regular old inspection mirrors like this one. Extends up to 24" long, collapsible to as small as 5.5". Fairly cheap too, so I could buy a bunch in case they get shot out a lot (which I imagine they would). Would a few of these suit my needs? I've seen more "official" ones used by actual military, but usually either require an expensive baton to attach it to, and/or have legal restrictions (why, I have NO idea). If anyone knows of any better ones that I could get my hands on, I'd like to see them.

A mirror is a mirror, make your own with a detatchable head so you can replace it when it gets taken out by a BB.

You will have to check with the event organizer and verify if they are ok with allowing a fragile mirror on their field.
In the event the mirror is shot out, many event organizers may not appreciate having to clean up a broken mirror. Also, it is a safety hazard.

They really aren't necessary.

I think they would be... for me at least. I'm not the kind of guy that likes to pop out of cover not knowing if it's clear or not. You will have to check with the event organizer and verify if they are ok with allowing a fragile mirror on their field. In the event the mirror is shot out, many event organizers may not appreciate having to clean up a broken mirror. Also, it is a safety hazard. On that note, there's some supposed shatter-resistant ones (I don't know if that really matters vs. a BB), but those might have the restrictions I was talking about.

Then you're also the kind of guy that will pop out of a corner without using a mirror to check if it's clear. It's just one more thing to remember, and entirely unnecessary. My point is, if it didnt occur to you to check your corners, will it occur to you to actually use the mirror?

I think you might have misread that:
And HOW do I check my corners without sticking my head out or something? I've seen guys stick their head out just a BIT and got one-shotted on the spot.

I see how a mirror like that would help out, but it isn't that necessary. Popping your head around a corner will suffice most of the time anyway because most people don't have the reaction time to shoot you that fast.
During outdoor games I carry a signal mirror in a miscellaneous pouch so I can signal my teammates that I'm a friendly. I like to be in the brush so it helps me not get hit by friendly fire.

I also take into account that my Bolle T-800's fog up BAD! Even with this Cat Crap anti-fog paste and spray, it still gets to where it looks like I'm underwater or something, and I can't see a target that's right in front of me. This means I need an extra second or two to see and identify an enemy, which is often more than enough for them to pick me off.

Worst idea ever. Check your corners man up and turn the corner.

The mirror is definitely a must have.
I always carry a mirror when I play to make sure I'm lookin' fine.

HAHAHAHAHAHA. CQBR speaks truth. I have seen CQBR stop in the middle of a fire fight and ask. " How does my ass look?"
I would not use one unless the field owner states that it is ok.

I bought a mechanic's mirror and have used it in CQB like twice and found it to be very impractical. Especially if you're by yourself. By the time you get up to a corner, pull out the mirror and angle it correctly so that you can see what's around the corner, chances are if someone is around the corner and they notice it, well now you gave your location away and all it takes for them is to quickly pop around the corner and shoot you.
All you do is slow yourself down trying to use it and in CQB speed is what gives you your advantage.
The only thing I can see that would be more practical to use would be a small periscope.

I guess another downside is having it shot out would mean 7 years of bad luck. Are you gonna carry a ladder around to walk under too?
In all seriousness though, just get a plastic one. Then if it shatters, it's not a big deal.
