I am deciently new to airsoft and just recently purchased a aeg, after a few matches with the aeg, I have been considering to purchase a sniper rifle to add to my arsenal. I looked at a few on airsoft gi and thought the utg mk96 scope package looks quite good, but I know looks and fps can be deceiving. Should I go with the utg mk96 or another one, my budget is around $200?

If your budget is $200 for a sniper rifle, you should just not buy one. Anyone who's serious about sniping in airsoft is going to tell you that to be competitive, you're going to need anywhere from 800 to 1000 bucks to invest in building your gun.
You would be much further ahead to put that $200 into your AEG and make it shoot more accurately and perhaps a bit farther.

Thanks for the input, since I have no experience in upgrading aeg internals is there any other gun that you would suggest I buy for under $220, it doesnt have to be a sniper. Just to add my current aeg is a cyma cm028 tokyo mauri clone.

Toss a decent tightbore barrel into your AEG, a new hop-up/bucking, and maybe a lower FPS spring and you will be quite satisfied with the results. Also, with the money left over, you can purchase things such as mid-cap magazines, a vest to use the magazines with, and whatever else you desire.

Been having trouble convince some local players of this as well... Quality over quantity any day. If you have 10 guns, and they all suck, well.... you get my point. But if you use all the money you would have used to buy those guns on a decent gun and any upgrades, especially on an aeg (like Thor said, unless you plan on dumping upwards of $800 into a sniper rifle, don't bother), you'll have a much better starting point. Trust me, you'll be happier with that one gun that does the job than 10 guns that get you lit up. And, also, consider gear. Do you have full seal goggles? Extra magazines? Batteries? Smart charger? The list goes on.

You need full seal goggles to play anywhere. You might not be violating any specific rule if you don't have them, but you will be risking the only two eyes you get for your whole life. BBs can and will find their way behind shooting glasses. Playing with anything but full seals is dangerous and flat out stupid.

You should do like was mentioned and buy some mid caps and a chest rig. Definitely consider midcaps, but I'll point you away from a chest rig. I'd reccomend a molle vest of some variety. That way, if you ever need to change your load-bearing capability, you can easily. If you buy an ak-specific chest rig and ever switch platforms it may be difficult to use that rig. You mentioned your budget, but it'll be worth it in the end.

Thanks for the feedback guys, looking forward to buying a new mag, battery, smart charger, and vest. I may then purchase a longer range aeg, any ideas for that?

All AEGs have pretty much a similar terminal range (the range that a bb will travel). The higher end guns (TM, G&G, etc) have better accuracy, which means they'll have a longer effective range (the range at which you can accurately hit a target). So if you're looking for an AEG with better range, you're looking at any long barreled high end AEG. The longest effective range that I've ever seen out of a stock AEG is the TM M14. That thing sails rounds out for miles.

I suggest going with some type of high end M16 AEG for long range. I suggest saving up for the KWA M16 BR (I understand your budget) for $320. It comes stock with 400fps-415fps and a good rate of fire, has a reinforced gearbox, and is all metal except for the handguard and stock. And the advantage that a M4/M16 AEG has over any other type of gun is the fact that you can find M4/M16 mags and parts at just about any airsoft retailer and they're relatively inexpensive. And Knief's suggestion is great too.

I took some of your guys suggestions but decided to go with the asgi battlestar mystery box. I am also buying a vest, battery and smart charger.

I don't like the sounds of anything called "mystery box".

I don't like the sounds of anything called "mystery box". Haha, I know what you mean but the worst gun I could get would be a jg m16a2 which really isnt that bad of a gun. Plus if I get that I still only payed $120 for a $150 gun.
