Alright well as much as I loved the eye relief and the functionality of using my huge rifle scop on my M16A4 I'm switching roles from a DM to just a rifeman and am shedding the scope and bipod.
And I'm having a hell of a time trying to decide on what optic I should get to replace my scope on it. I'm looking for something more compact, however I still want something magnified, but I really would like for it to have a decent eye relief so that I can clearly see my shots, and up to a decent range (200+ feet)
So I'm basically looking for a magnified optic, and have been debating on whether or not to get a 4X32 ACOG replica, or a 4X SpecterDR that's already out.
I've heard that the eye relief on the 4X32 ACOG's are pretty small, and read that with the SpecterDR that it's pretty good.
I'm even open to getting something unmagnified like a Eotech and then buying a magnifier.
I'd like to hear what's worked for all of you and see what you would suggest. Thanks guys.
And I did research brands and what not I just don't know which optic would best suit me.

Are you looking for something that looks good or something tht is more practical?

Are you looking for something that looks good or something tht is more practical? As long as it's practical for my needs in terms of having great eye relief, and is magnified I won't care what it looks like.

Some of the 4x32 ACOG's aren't terrible. Ones made by G&P are usually ok-ish. The replica one I got is actually not that bad. www.ebairsoft.com/ta31-style-combat-scope-color-p-1711.htmlSo really, it all depends on your luck. I've seen replica ACOG's where the eye relief was absolute garbage too.

Eye relief on my SpecterDR is good enough. It's not the best, but it's better than some repro sights out there. I can't comment on zeroing it as I haven't done that yet thanks to replica issues. They're sexy though.

You'll have the best luck with zeroing the Specters since they have a different prism mechanism inside that won't break from zeroing to different extremes. (unlike the fake ACOG's)
For zoom, you'll be better off with a replica ACOG as those are actually 4x zoom whereas the SpecterDR's are around 3x
Shoot me a PM if you have any other questions. I've owned 5 or 6 of the replica ACOG's as well as a few others of the replica zoomed optics.

Gotcha. Thanks Knife and cqbr. I love the look of the SpecterDR a lot.
I'm just concerned with dropping around $150 shipped for one and then being disappointed with it after I get it. Even though it seems to be a pretty nice replica.

If you've handled the RS Specter you'll be bouncing off the walls at first but then eventually crave the real one. (At least that's what happened to me)
Whereas if you haven't seen one, you'll be ecstatic and be bouncing off the walls forevvvvarrrr...I have nothing else to say PM replied dude

The eye relieve on my Made in Bay-jing ACOG 4x is not bad at all, actually, I find it better than the one on the G&P I once owned. Its reticle is some Leapers-type mildot shit, but it gets the job done quite well, and on a good M16, it turns your Death Star Planetkiller into something so precise, Vader could shave his balls with it, had he not had the lava-wax.
Lemme know next time we meet at a game, gunny, I'll let you take a look-see.

Appreciate the info Roughneck. I'm now also considering buying an Elcan replica, and am trying to research the best one. From what I've researched the G&P just sourced theirs from a chinese manufacurer and they suck. But a lot of the ones I've seen from various Hong Kong sites seem to go for like as low as $60. But from what I've seen they only go up to 3X magnification. Well here's the two I'm considering www.ebairsoft.com/tactical-scope-p-1443.html $99 www.airsoftpanda.com/product_info.php/products_id/643 $60 The ebairsoft one says it's 4X, and the one from airsoftpanda says it's 3.4X. And then there's the price difference but I'm wondering if they all come from the same Chinese manufacturer. Well I'm hoping after taking a look at what cqbr has on Sunday I'll be able to reach a decision.

I actually came in this thread to tell you to get an ELCAN replica. They look sweet and are crazy effective. The one I looked through was GreatDestroyer's and I loved it. You'd have to PM him to see what brand that beast was.
