This is the pertinent section of the MCL:
THE MICHIGAN PENAL CODE (EXCERPT) Act 328 of 1931
750.226a Pocket knife opened by mechanical device; unlawful sale or possession; persons exempted.
Sec. 226a.
Any person who shall sell or offer to sell, or any person who shall have in his possession any knife having the appearance of a pocket knife, the blade or blades of which can be opened by the flick of a button, pressure on a handle or other mechanical contrivance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment in the county jail for not to exceed 1 year or by a fine of not to exceed $300.00, or both.
The provisions of this section shall not apply to any one-armed person carrying a knife on his person in connection with his living requirements.
I do not believe that spring assist knives fall into that category. For whatever reason, they really only care about switchblades (knife that you push a button to open).

the blade or blades of which can be opened by the flick of a button Ok I've taken this off topic enough so last post, but that says it all right there. Benchmades are not legal.

Is there a particular back up iron sight that would be accurate for this look?

I believe A.R.M.S #40's are pretty common.

I saw one that looked like a Knight's Armament flip up. Another one looked like the same flip up used on SCARs

You can't go wrong with an old style KAC BUIS. Those are about as common in all branches as monkey butt on a humid summer day.

Sorry I completely forgot that I posted up in this section. But the one that I got, and the one that they sell at all the stores I've gone to aren't a switchblade type. They're actually really convienient and I use it about as much as I use my sog leatherman tool. I'd definately reccommend not only for realism but practical reasons.

Thanksgiving Day video update from me. Video from training and some operations in Iraq I believe. This isn't a video put together by me, rather found awhile back from I believe someone on Arnies. www.filefront.com/15003433/recon%20marine.WMVJust some quick updates as well, if you're looking for a kosher multitool, the Bechmade D.E.T. is issued. For glasses, Oakley M Frames work out, but I'd stick to goggles as M frames aren't full seal.

For the sake of safety I'll agree. But for realism none of the Force guys actually rock full seals. I would share with y'all exactly what my guys were wearing when we were working with them doing some VBSS missions but the OPSEC in me says to just keep it hush and you can check out the loadout if I show up to a game. Anyways. You're all close enough to the look. If you could aquire a frog suit that would up the loadout ten fold.
