I currently have Ike's Ares from this thread.
Still going strong, and I'm the fourth owner.

Have you had to perform further modifications to it?

Nope.
It could use a tune up, but that's it. I've had zero problems with it since I picked it up.

I purchased the Ares M4a1 about a year ago. Initially it performed well, build is decent. Slight wobble in the upper part of the receiver. Delta ring is a little weak. After about two months of usage the tappet was obliterated. Then my hop-up unit went. I replaced it with a Madbull 3 in 1 hop up (with some annoying modifications for fit.). After adding Magpul MOE accessories (pistol grip, hand guard, and real steel MOE stock), it worked well for the next 3 months. Multi-piece outer barrel was constantly coming loose. The upper reciever wobble got worse. Then the coup de grace: gearbox was annihilated. Front of the gearbox sheared. Note about use: It wasn't abused. Power never exceeded 360 fps. Good bbs were always used (g&g, ksc, etc.) Voltage never exceeded 9.6V. I desire to restore this gun to its former self, however the lower receiver requires Ares modified m4 gearbox. Standard doesn't fit. Sadly it has been a hassle to find one in stock. In the end I'd have to give this product 2.5/5 stars. There are better options out there. Proprietary parts are a hassle. After owning a 1st generation Ares TAR-21 and never having a single mechanical problem with it, it was really disappointing that the m4 didn't make it more that 6 months.

Correction, that Ares blows. I've seen a TM M4 do the same thing pushing a similar FPS. It's luck of the draw with some of these guns. We are using glorified toys after all.

Agreed. I think there are some quality control issues in airsoft products in general. That's what we get for playing an "import sport."
I've never had so many issues with one gun, in such a small amount of time.
That being said I have had a UTG M3 for almost six years now, heavily used and almost all plastic and it performs the same as it did on day one.
Sent maverick a message.
