I have been trying to start a tournament in the U.P. for a while and I have been wondering how I should raise money to advertise it. I have a team, DeltaTeam23, and it consists of 5 people. It may get 3 more if my buddy joins with his little squad of 2 + him. The tournament (if there is one) would be near Marquette. But it would be a big help if I got some answers to how I raise money for the tournament.

DeltaTeam23,
I don't mean to rain on your parade here, but tournaments in airsoft just do not work... When you add in the element of money or other types of prizes; the honor and honesty that airsoft lives on dies out... People will cheat to obtain the prize, because let's face it; there is no way to tell if you have been hit or not...
As for your question on how to raise money. I don't think anyone here knows you well enough (considering you are brand new here) to give you money for a tournament.
Not to mention, what would the tournament be? What would be happening? What would the prizes be? What games would be played?...
Running an airsoft event takes an extreme amount of planning, logistics, and networking. You can't just make an account on an online forum and then just expect people to send you money and what not.
I apologize if I sound like a dick, that was not my intention. But I feel that you just don't quite know enough about mainstream airsoft yet...
Hopefully, if you stick around you can pick up a bit more.
If you wish to talk about it more, feel free to send me a PM with your name and number.

Note: Don't forget to capitalize the letter 'I' when referring to yourself. Otherwise, a stellar first post.

Why do you need to raise money? Since when do airsofters need to pay to advertise an event? You can do that here for free, just put a post up in the Event Planning section (be sure to read the rules first though).

^ Very true. A lot of people will cheat to get things if they get the opportunity. I'd love to say that no one cheats in airsoft but it happens every once and while. If you add money or whatever, someone is going to get that temptation and ruin everyone elses fun.

I believe what Kiki is asking is: "exactly what is the money going for?"
From the prospective of a seasoned event coordinator, I understand that airsoft events have overhead expenses. It's basic business practice.
What we would like to know is, what is it going for? I mean, not to be a prick here; but if you want people to give you money you might want to tell them why. I understand that you want our input on how to raise funding for this 'tournament.' But for us to give you an answer that is more in depth than what Kiki said, we need to know what for...
Otherwise, it sounds a bit shady. I honestly mean no offense, but try and look at it from our prospective.
I'll also give you a bit of advice... You don't raise money for an airsoft event. Almost all of the major airsoft fields in Michigan are 'pay to play' locations. You pay money in order to play at a major event. There is no fund raising, no charity balls, no galas.

The money would go for prizes, and some fo rthe property owner. I was thinking that some of the prizes could be ammo, guns, camo, vests, ect. You know, just a fun event to where you can win prizes through raffles and through games. Maybe some ammo if your on one of the winning teams in the events. I was thinking there could be all sorts of types of battles, where I could have polls to see what is liked most and dissliked most.

Ya see, you need to have all this stuff ironed out before you even post any ideas about it.
Just curious here, how long have you been involved in airsoft?
Again, airsoft doesn't do fundraising. Unless it's for a charity organization. Income in generated by hosting an event and paying for admissions...
Not to beat a dead horse or anything here. Tournaments in airsoft just do not work... Sorry to rain on your parade here.

The main reason they don't work is because airsoft is a game of honor, and when you introduce prizes into it, honor goes out the window. So, just so you know, cheating will be blatant. It sucks, but that's why we play airsoft and not paintball.
Also, if you're still deadset on giving out prizes, have people pay to play. That's how pretty much every event I've ever been to has worked. You pay $30 or whatever for a MilSim game, and the hosts use that money to pay for props and such.

I think I might just go with the pay to play thing, it eems like a very good idea, but I have been airsofting for 3 years. Ind I didn't think of that. Thank you for the idea.
