My son just turned 16 and has asked to participate. I don't know the F/P/S of his gun (just got it for Christmas), and I'm pretty sure he doesn't have the type of goggles you mentioned. Assuming I can get them by tomorrow, my big question is whether this is the type of event someone who has never played before can come and learn and have fun doing so? Can I stay and watch?
Thanks, Jeff

The goggles can be found at places like Meijers or Dicks. If its your son's first time, a paintball mask is not necessarily a bad idea. Do you know what brand of rifle your son has, that will help us know if he's under or over the 350 limit.

Thanks, Jeff I have an extra paintball mask that I can let your son borrow so if you don't find the proper goggles by whatever day you plan on attending I 'll have that for you guys. You can definitely come along and watch. Just to warn you though, most people who stay and watch end up getting a gun for themselves the following week and they get hooked like the rest of us. ;D

Assuming I can get them by tomorrow, my big question is whether this is the type of event someone who has never played before can come and learn and have fun doing so? Can I stay and watch? Thanks, Jeff Jeff, you are more than welcome to stay. However, there won't be much for you to see since this is a small facility, and as such, if you were to be a spectator in the game-area you are almost guaranteed to get shot at multiple times. Not to mention the hallways are pretty tight, so you might end up getting in the way. So like I said, you are more than welcome to stay in the staging area, however going into the field itself probably wouldn't be the best idea unless you plan on playing. We play our games here as recreational games, so your son will be able to have fun and learn the ropes just fine. There's not a whole lot to learn besides the rules of the field (which we will go over at the game) as these games are meant for fun. As for goggles/gun, goggles just need to be full-seal. That means shooting glasses or the sort are NOT ok. As Knife mentioned, you can get a paintball mask (which will be full-seal and will protect your son's face better) for pretty cheap at a Dunham's, Meijer's, or Dick's sporting goods. We do, however, require that the gun shoot under 350 feet/second since this will all be in tight quarters. We will have a chronograph at the game to check everyone's gun, but if you can tell us what gun you bought for your son (or maybe a link online to it?) we can help determine if it will be under 350 FPS or not. If it isn't, somebody at the game might be willing to downgrade the spring or even loan you a gun.

Jeff - if you are attending on Saturday I should have an extra gun for you to use. Probably an AEG but at the very least a shotgun which is perfect for a game like this. I'll be one of the old guys... I have nothing else to say

My very first event was a Hellfish Farmington game. Their event got me hooked. I got home, sat down on my computer, and ordered myself an airsoft gun. So is this event good for a first time player? I have to say yes. It is a Rec game, a smaller field, and there are a lot of great players who attend and can teach your son the ropes.

Thanks for the quick replies!
I just checked where we ordered them on-line, and it looks like his gun is the "enhanced JG AK47 Tactical RIS AEG with a built-in RIS system" which was represented to have fps of 350-375. His little brother received an AES as well, a "JG M5-A4" which was claimed to be 340-375 fps. I'll bring them both.
Again, other than my boys shooting each other in the back yard, we have not taken them anyplace, so I don't know if they actually shoot harder or easier than represented.
Based on your replies, it sounds like you wouldn't mind a total newcomer joining in. My boys use these masks with mesh protecting the eyes, so I will try to get some goggles and bring him on Saturday.
Thanks (and try not to hurt him too much).

The mesh masks do seem nice at first, especially since you don't have to deal with fogging, but I quit using them immediately after seeing this: miairsoft.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=3006Thankfully, a good pair of goggles is relatively cheap nowadays. I use Arena Flakjaks, and they have never fogged on me. If your son decides that he enjoys playing, and wants to go to more games, I highly recommend them. They cost about $25 here: www.goggleoverstock.com/index.htmlAs for your JG guns, they do tend to shoot a little hot out of the box, but bring them along and we'll find out. If they are shooting too hard, there should be plenty of people (including myself) who wouldn't mind loaning a gun.

Due to low numbers I will just have waivers available there. Please get to this event early so we can have games rolling by no later than 11:15 AM. I will be there so the doors will be opened at 9:30 AM. There will be two bathrooms open at this game and we have multiple outlets for charging batteries. The field temperature normally hovers at 65-70 degrees so dress ready. Thanks to everyone who is comming out!

So I haven't counted the new additions to the roster, but it's looking like a total of 7 for Saturday and 12 for Sunday according to the latest roster??? It's looking a bit lopsided for one team, both days, and thin overall. Any status update on whether both games are still on?

If teams are lopsided day of, hellfish will be placed on either team/alone/whatever. The two camos could also be divided up and combined, with so few people FF shouldn't be an issue.

I'd like to apologize to Hunter for any confusion caused by Miketheace trying to speak for both himself and I. I'm not sure exactly what he PMed you, but I have no idea why he thought he could represent me without talking to me first. To be clear, I will be attending on Saturday, ready to play.
If Hunter has notified any Hellfish of a roster change already, disregard anything concerning myself. As for Mike, I cannot speak for him.
