REC Phoenix Tactical Airsoft League

Phoenix Tactical will be hosting an airsoft league that will meet once a month. We will meet in December, January, February, March and April. Before I can post exact dates I need to have an idea of how many teams we will have. Doors open at 5pm and the games will be from 6pm to 11pm on Wednesday nights. If we get more than 6 teams we will split them up to different nights of the week. Teams MUST be ready to hit the field at 6 SHARP. We will be using a round-robin (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Round-robin_tournament) type tournament, so the games will be running all night. Each team will play 5 games a night, and each game will last 10 minutes.

We are limiting this league to 3 man teams. It will cost $20 per player, per game, totaling $100 per person. The grand total due for each team is $300.This is due UP FRONT and is NON REFUNDABLE. This is to make sure everyone shows up. It is not required, but we are allowing ONE substitute player per team. We will not be charging the sub extra, so it is up to your team to decide how much each person will cover. There will be prizes for the winning team at each monthly meet, as well as a grand prize for the winning team in the end. The more teams we get, the better the prizes will be.

The game we will be playing is very cool. We have a bomb with a 10 minute timer. The bomb is filled with sand to make it difficult to shoot while carrying. If necessary I can weigh to bomb to make sure everyone can lift it. The objective is to make sure the bomb is not on your team’s side when it explodes. The field will be split in half. There will also be a limit line 4 feet on either side of center. Players WILL NOT be allowed to cross their limit line (refer to picture for clarification). This is to prevent teams from rushing the spawn and camping out. Each teams spawn point will be behind cover and safe from fire.

To make things interesting placing the bomb will be important. Each side will have a barrel on their side of the half line. If the bomb explodes when it is on the barrel it is worth 100 points. If the bomb simply explodes on the ground it is worth 50 points. The barrels will be out in the open with little or no cover.

Here is a general overview of the field. As long as the bomb is in the grey area of the opposite side, your team wins. This picture DOES NOT show the cover we will have on the field. There are too many walls for me to draw. The bomb will start at a random location along the center line.


The points and wins will be tallied up at the end. The team with the most wins and points and the end of the night will be the winner of the night, and receive the prizes.

Rules:
Full seal goggles are a must.
Full face protection is reguired, balaclava, bandana, shemagh, paintball mask, T-shirt, Just cover your face.
All guns must be 350 FPS or lower. (We will be cronographing)
Semi Auto ONLY
No hi cap mags, mid or low caps only. Speed loaders and bags of BB’s will be allowed on the field. We would like to prevent half line camping as much as possible.
MIA engagement limits are in effect.
No camo restrictions, we have armbands.

There will be refs on the field.

Our schedule depends on how many days in a week we will need to run the event. We have played this game a few times and it was really fun. If we make any changes I will be sure to post them up.

*UPDATE*

I put together a schedule to help make sure people can commit. It will be the 2nd Wednesday of every month. Looking at the calendar this doesn't appear to conflict with anything. Again, if there are any huge problems with the dates we might be able to work something out. For now though, we will stick to this.

As of now, yes. If we have a huge amount of people asking for a different day we can change it. Even then, if there are more than 6 teams some of them will have to meet on a Wednesday.

Just be aware that team vs. team games that promise prizes for the winners usually increases the chances of someone not calling hits.

If this is going to work it would be a great thing but it will take complete sportsmanship from everyone involved and based on experience, that is very hard to come by. One person cheating will ruin the whole thing for everyone including the organizers so I advise you guys to be very clear and strict on this point.

I have to agree with MS-ARC about the fact that team vs team tournaments can increase cheating, but with a minimum of 4 refs, you would be able to catch most if not all of that I would think.

Another idea, which I don't know if you considered it, would be to run more of a MOUT-style tournament, where teams have to clear a course of fire in a set amount of time, fastest and most accurate team wins. With no direct competition against other players, it almost completely eliminates the possibility of cheating. If you were going to do something like that, I would recommend modified IDPA course rules.

Just a thought. Otherwise, I think the idea has a lot of merit.

This would be true if the points were given to teams based on eliminations, but they are not. Its based on objectives and with the objectives in plain open view and two refs on each objective I see little room for cheating or the want to cheat. Plus there is only three men per team on the field.

So small teams, lots of refs, no points for eliminations, respawns, and objectives should keep games honest. So I hope people will sign up and field a team.

I agree after playing this field 3 or 4 refs will have it on lock down pretty tight.

As an aside, I've set up some other honor based combat games before, (ranging from airsoft to the ninja game, [substitute airsoft guns for padded pvc "swords"]), and the desire to win can, indeed, cause people to say a hit didn't count, even if you just hit them with a stick.
In my experience, these problems tend to ultimately fix themselves via a positive feedback system; IF you don't feel I did a good enough job getting you out, THEN I will do a MUCH better job of getting you out next time. (some might argue that's a negative feedback system, but I digress).

The argument can be made that that is a "dick" way of looking at the problem, but generally the people who feel like they are not calling hits because they are legitimate misses, (ricochets, grazes, etc), don't bitch about getting shot out smartly. People who don't call hits because they want to win WILL. I ignore those people. Sometimes, a miracle happens and they get so frustrated they don't come back. Win - win.

To clarify, I'm not suggesting anything malicious with the sentence, "I will do a MUCH better job next time." What I mean is this: If I shoot someone three times in the LBE and he doesn't notice, then I will shoot him three times in the leg next time, because he will probably feel that better than the shots on his equipment. If I can't get at his legs, I will shoot him many times in the vest, to increase the odds that he'll hear the pellets hitting. This is called, by some, "overshooting". As long as it's kept below the neck, and you try not to hit the hands, it's no more dangerous than any other tactic in airsoft.

I agree with you. Sometimes I also give them the benifit of the doubt. I am sure that sometimes when I am running I get hit on the gear and don't feel or notcie so of course I don't call it, so many times id i hit someone moving I give them the benifit that they probably didn't notice. Alo many times someone is shooting at me and missing what should be an easy shot so I am sure it happens the other way around.

I am looking forward to this event, roster would be a good idea. I will be leading "TASK FORCE: OVERLORD" to this tourny.
