Battle For Ia Drang
June 27th 2009
A Joint Airsoft Event Hosted By Armory Airsoft and Hole In The
Wall Paintball
Wall Paintball
Teaser Trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVlTNAAoErY&feature=channel_page
Note: Our goal in this event is to recreate the experience and engagements for the Battle for Ia Drang Valley while still keeping the gameplay fun and enjoyable to all. This does require some effort on the players’ part to act as if they are really fighting there. If stalking up on American positions through the grass, or holding the perimeter against mass attacks of communist forces does not sound like fun, this may not be the event for you.
Location:
Armory Airsoft Field/Hole In The Wall Paintball
24262 66th Street
Bangor, Michigan 49013
Age: 14+
Registration Fee: $20.00
Briefing: 11:00 AM
Game Start: 12:00 PM
Game End: unknown
Background:
A large force of NVA (North Vietnamese Army) soldiers, estimated at battalion strength, attacks the Special Forces base near Plei Me. Units of the 1st Cavalry Division search near the base in the following days, but find nothing.
Aerial reconnaissance of the central highlands region of Vietnam suggests that a large buildup of NVA forces is taking place in the vicinity of Chu Pong Mountain, near the Cambodian border. A command decision has been made for the 1st Cavalry Division to follow up this information with a reconnaissance in force of the area.
The situation on the ground will be unclear until units are dedicated to the area, so several LZ’s (Landing Zones) will be in the vicinity to support operations in the Ia Drang Valley itself. LZ X-Ray will be the closest to the estimated location of NVA forces and likely the first to come into contact. X-Ray will have priority for all support assets.
Scenario 1: LZ X-Ray - The Landing
The first American troops touch down in Ia Drang Valley and find no North Vietnamese presence there. Next to nothing is known about the enemy positions and the new Air Mobile strategy is put to the test. The NVA however have been waiting for them…
Scenario 2: LZ X-Ray - 1st Platoon Bravo
As the battle at LZ X-Ray intensifies, a single American platoon is cutoff and surrounded by hostile forces. All available forces on the ground are diverted to rescue them, but the North Vietnamese seem to be everywhere. Can the lost platoon hold on?
Scenario 3: LZ X-Ray - Assault on Chu Pong
As more American reinforcements land, the final push for Chu Pong Mountain begins. Can the Air Mobile unit push the North Vietnamese back toward Cambodia, or will the NVA be able to maintain their hold on the central highlands?
Scenario 4: The march to LZ Albany
With the withdrawal of North Vietnamese forces from LZ X-Ray, the Americans move in a tactical march to set up a new LZ to the east codenamed Albany. But the North Vietnamese could be anywhere.
Scenario 5: LZ Albany - Reinforcements
The American units are strung out and under heavy attack by North Vietnamese forces. After hours of grueling close range combat, every position is on the verge of collapse. Reinforcements from nearby LZ Columbus are called in to help, but will they be ambushed too?
