Title says most of what I am asking. I am looking to purchase a nice radio, tired of using shitty little Motorola 2 way's. Im not sure on the exact budget, so just list some models you like, and i'll research from there.
If you don't mind, include the pros and cons of the radios that you like/use.
Thanks in advance.

You've got 302 posts and you can't be bothered to find your apostrophe key? You should know better.
If you can live with only having 15 channels, the Icom IC-F21GM works great. I do recommend buying a battery and charger, since the set that come with the radio are pretty wimpy.

That model seems to be decent from the information I have been able to find. I am assuming that some type of license is required to operate the IC-F21GM, is this correct?
Again, since I am new to the whole world of "Radio's", fill me in on legit places where one could purchase the said radio.

You need a GMRS license, which you can get online from the FCC. You can probably find lots of dealers with Google. I think I use RAHQ for mine, although honestly, it's been so long I can't be sure anymore.

Just grab a Motorola or Midland radio. They will suit your needs for airsoft. Too often with my Icom am I not able to receive transmissions from the cheap radios most airsofters use because of the squelch function. And with the squelch turned off, it picks up all sorts of static. There's no need to spend more than $40 or $50 on a decent 2 way Motorola or Midland radio.

Tex, you're still the only guy I know with that problem. Weird.

Tex, you might want to try programing your ICOM for different FRS channels, my F21GM will transmit but not receive on some channels.

Programming your IS-F21GM is almost certain to land you in violation of FCC rules. It is not legal to use those radios on the 7 FRS-only channels.
Joslyn, use the search function, there have been lots of discussions of headsets on this board.

It is my understanding that, priority wise, prosecuting people without these licenses is on par with people who tape Football games without the express written consent of the NFL & the Broadcasting network you watch said program on. Or am I wrong and need to shut up and apologize? Modified in response to Zorak's post below.

I have a license. So there. More importantly, encouraging people to break the law is at odds with the ProBoards terms of service, and y'all want this here forum to stay around, right? So while I don't want a forum witch hunt to see who all might be using GMRS without a license, I prefer to at least mention the legal issues involved and let people know what they need to do in order to stay on the outside of the cop car.

I was more trying to make a point of not being discouraged to buy a good radio by needing a license on the spot. I believe that the license is only required to use the higher-end GMRS frequencies. Sort of like you need insurance for your car, but you have 24hrs from the time of purchase to obtain it. I was just saying it is unlikely you will be sent to federal-pound-me-in-the-@ss Prison. My first post does seem to imply a disregard for the law so I hope this clarifies my point. So, I will actually shut up and apologize, Sorry!

I see this the other way. If those crappy radios are so puny they can barely break squelch on an IC-F21GM, why on earth would anyone want to own one?

Zorak, it was explained to me by the dealer I purchased the radio from that if you put it on low power you could use the ICOM on the FRS only channels is this not correct?
