On Sat June 14th, GK will be hosting a free orientation session for players ages 14-18 who want to learn more about the milsim style of play. The session will be held at our practice field in the back woods of Howell - I don't have the address but I'll get it up soon. (Snip, care to hook me up?) The session will run from noon to 5pm, followed by dinner for those interested.
Our practice area is very small, and GK doesn't have a lot of active players, so we're capping this at a maximum of six players. Please check with your parents or other transportation before you post here - we don't want people saying they'll come and then pulling out later when they can't get rides. Since we're basically parking on someone's lawn, we'd appreciate it if people carpooled as much as possible. There's a carpool lot near the intersection of D19 and I-96 where people can meet and share a ride to the field if desired.
The six spots will be first come, first served. You can pull out as late as midnight the night of 6/11, and then your spot goes to the next person on the list. As of 6/12, anyone who pulls out without a very good reason will be red flagged for future GK events.
If you don't make the list this time, don't despair. If this works out and the people who attend thought it was worthwhile, we'll be doing it again.
Our focus will be helping players with some experience in airsoft make the jump from rec play to milsim play. We're not going to teach you how to shoot better, how to reload, how to use cover, or any of the other skills you use in rec and milsim play. We'll focus on the skills needed to attend a milsim op as an underage player and fit in with the older crowd. This is not a competition. There will be no winners. If your only interest is coming and shooting a global moderator in the head, stay home and let someone who cares about milsim have your spot. Leave your ego in the car, it won't help you in the woods. If your goal is to have some older airsofters vouch for you when you ask to go to future milsim events, you'll have a better chance of impressing us with your willingness to learn than your mad skizzles.
Requirements for attendance:
Bringing an FRS or GMRS radio is strongly encouraged, but not absolutely required.
Rough agenda:
After this, parents are out of luck until 5pm. We're going into the woods and talking airsoft for airsofters.
We'll try our best to have you back to your cars by 5pm, so your parents won't have to get cranky. GK will be going out to eat in Brighton as a team after the event, and you and your parents will be welcome to join us if you like.

Requirements for attendance:
- full seal eye protection. No mesh goggles, no shooting glasses, etc.
- AEG shooting under 400fps.
- 2 or more midcap, standard, or lowcap mags. No hicaps, no box mags, etc.
- BDU of some sort - we don't care about patterns, but show up wearing military clothing, not your old jeans. Similarily, wear boots in black or some tactical color, not Vans.
Bringing an FRS or GMRS radio is strongly encouraged, but not absolutely required.
Rough agenda:
- Greeting and safety briefing - parents welcome and encouraged to attend. We'll go over all the usual safety rules, and also reassure your parents that this isn't some insane plot to go all Blair Witch on their children. We'll take as much time as needed to reassure them that this is safe and that we're on the up and up.
- Warmup skirmish - parents welcome and encouraged to attend. If your parents want to see what the fuss is all about, this is their chance to skirmish with or against you. Please let us know in advance if your parents are interested. We'll try our very best to come up with loaner guns and eye protection for parents as needed, but we can't suddenly come up with five extra weapons if you show up to the field with your entire extended family.
- Skirmish debriefing - If we saw anything during the skirmish, or the parents want to bring something up, we'll get it out of the way.
After this, parents are out of luck until 5pm. We're going into the woods and talking airsoft for airsofters.
- Radio briefing - we'll talk about proper radio procedure and comm discipline. If you have a radio, we'll try to make sure it's not bleeping and hooting when it ought not. If you know you have a problem with your radio, please let us know the model of the radio in advance, or bring your manual with you.
- Movement and hand signals - how to move as a squad and use the standard hand signals.
- Milsim philosophy and tactics - one of the standard grumbles about new players is that they move to contact and then stop. We'll discuss why milsim play sometimes requires you to move in and take heavy losses, and then show you some tactics to keep those losses to a minimum.
- Exercises - we'll close out with some actual skirmishing, using a mix of the drills GK usually does and some scenarios designed to use the skills we've discussed. We'll debrief after each skirmish to remedy any confusion and help you apply what you've learned.
We'll try our best to have you back to your cars by 5pm, so your parents won't have to get cranky. GK will be going out to eat in Brighton as a team after the event, and you and your parents will be welcome to join us if you like.
