You must understand the real difference between rifles and handguns. They both shoot a similar sized slug, but rifle slugs are attached to a much longer case providing a lot more propellant. This - coupled with a longer barrel - gives the rifle better accuracy and range. Of course, this doesn't pertain to comparison of a 50-BMG round & a 9mm, but I'm talkin' 7.62x39 & 9mm here

Yes, I know all this. But those slugs are at different weights and different sizes. The physics of the bullets are different.
Force= mass x accelleration
Also, a wider bullet (.45 ACP) would plate out easier in HP form than a rifle round (.223 Winchester). In the same regards the rifle round would have more armor piecing potential in a FMJ from than the pistol round.
I see your point however. Now the idea of 8mm bb's seems less exciting.

Yes, and I want to make it clear that I didn't mean pistols are more deadly than rifles - I was merely stating that 9mm HPs are more deadly at pistol range than most rifle rounds are. I guess I kinda veered off course regarding the 8mm bb issue

If I could jump in here, the bore diameter is very significant to the penetration cabability of a projectile, aerodynamics too but mostly at longer ranges. Weight and velocity are at least as much of a concern to accuracy and lethality. Both of those factors we can control in airsoft. Since penetration (hopefully) will never occur, it seems like the ability to alter the bore size would provide almost no advantage to the simulation of terminal ballistics. Even more so since the ranges at wich the aerodynamics would come into play are also rarely seen using airsoft guns.[that was GUNS ;-)]
