Been lurking for a couple of weeks, figured I would post finally about this addictive like crack hobby... Airsoft, just what we needed to find..... As if medieval re-enactment and full contact armored fighting wasn't enough. Now we have to shoot each other too.... In the last two weeks we have bought nearly a dozen cheapy NBBs, a MC-51, AK-47, MP5A5, AK-47 Beta Spetsnaz, Mac-11, WA Infinity 5", a Socom (pos already broke ), batteries, chargers, 40,000 rounds of Marui .20 BBs, and a bunch of nitnoid other stuff.... Next week should be five complete sets of Flectarn w/ web gear, goggles, and assorted b/s... Week after that.... another Mac-11.... and about fifteen more cheapy gas NBB pistols. Spensive as hell... but you know, shooting people DOES make for a nice relief from beating people in the head for fun, AND I don't have to slog on a bunch of armor to do it... Kinda glad I found it... Take it easy and I hope to meet you guys some day... Vitalis

You must have some serioud capital to buy all that gear.
I assume "we" refers to him and the 5 people he has locked up in his cellar...duh.

I have nothing else to say!! I LOVE THAT!
Recreate fantasy battles in the medieval time period! Tight!! (www.legiodraconis.com)
Airsoft pales in comparison!
*hauls ass and buys some 1337 armor and sword*
Anyone else up to it?

Thanks for the welcome.... Ok, as for the "we"... I'll give the long answer. The group I am part of belongs to an international medieval re-enactment organization (No, not part of the Michigan RenFest)... Our local group, Legio Draconis fields about 85 fighters with associated wives, friends, etc... We discovered airsoft and started jumping into it as something to do for a change from beating on each other. This is the reason for all the cheapy gas NBB pistols. Its an easy way for the people who only want to do this for fun to play. Our first game is set for June and has about 40 signed up to play. The more serious gear is me and four others who are interested in playing airsoft on a more regular basis. We are going to start attending the games WTS sponsors, some MIA games if we can get into them, Ohio games, Illinois, etc... We are ex-paintballers from when paintball USED to be military sim... Hell, I was doing WWII war stuff as a teenager back in the 80's with BB guns and no goggles... Complete American and German uniforms, blazing each other... If its military, we are into it... Roman re-enactment, medieval warfare, 1/285th scale micro-armor (WWII Squad Leader stuff), and now airsoft. As for the cash, we just believe in supporting our hobbies ;D And we have some good jobs, that helps too.... Course, we are all old dirtbags compaired to most of you, we range from 34 to 31.... Again, thanks for the welcome... Vitalis p.s. If anyone is interested to take a look go to this website images.pennsic.net/p30pics.html and take a look at the photos, specially the battle photos and movies. This is from last year's Pennsic War. 14,000 of us in one place for two weeks, battles with 700 per side, all in all, pretty decent for a vacation.

That looks hella-fun, or hell-weird, I'm not sure yet...but it looks more fun than weird. ;D
How much does that stuff cost/how do you determine kills? I don't have a ton a' time to browse through the info tonight, but tomorrow I might. Sounds very interesting.

He he, a weird looking sport, still I wonder do people "die" or just beat the crap out of each other. It looks like fun, but proly just like civil war reanactment, to expensive.

I think they just beat the crap outta each otha. ;D
Those movies are hilarious, by the way...I think it would be fun, though, to lead in a charge of 500 guys! 8)

There actually are rules to the fighting... Much like airsoft, we use an honor system. A hit of "sufficient force" to the legs or arms will cause you to lose that limb. A hit to the body or head kills you dead. It is up to the person receiving the hit to be honorable and take the shot. We hit hard enough that shots on unarmored flesh will leave a nice big bruise for a while. We CAN hit hard enough to break a motor cycle helmet. But it is all good. And the SCA is definately cheaper than Civ-War re-enactment. We don't have as stringent of rules as they do. Even basic armor protection is only about the cost of a good GBB pistol. And the best thing is we don't do this for spectators so there are no goobs standing around watching. Those of us that are getting into airsoft like I said above are into mil-sim heavily. Any chance we get to do some type of mil-sim combat is righteous by us. Getting together regularly for training shouldn't be too hard as we already see each other three or four nights a week to practice/train/work on SCA crap. And it is MOST addictive, in the last week I have burned about 3000 rounds of ammo practicing stress shooting with my MC-51. We are meeting tonight and Saturday for some group practice. We are going to be setting up a buddy system and working out small unit tactic type stuff based on the info one of our members is bringing (ex-Special Forces). It is the same basically as the various tactic primers found on websites like Airsoft Ohio. Hopefully, we will be ready to play with others in about a month or so, get a real world perspective of the game, and modify our training. This is most definately addictive. It is addictive enough that we had to promise our commander in the SCA that airsoft would take a second seat to our SCA commitments... Vitalis, who can't wait to get out and PLAY

;D HAHAHHAHA, Viking, you guys will cream us, I'm sure. Other than lots of years of paintball, we have never done Airsoft against anyone else. No substitute for experience. But we do believe in hardcore training. That is what makes our local Legion known throughout the Midwest and East coast in the SCA. We train hard, twice a week.
I can't wait to get the rest of our gear together and get some play time in against other people. We have much to learn and much to practice and there is no better way to do that than in actual combat.
At our practice tonight I will let everyone know to stop by here and join in on the forums.
Have a good one,
Vitalis

Vitalis, welcome to the forums. It's good to have another flectarn wearing airsoft addict around. *me laying around on the job as usual. I have to say I'm pretty impressed with your collection and even more impressed by the fact you managed to gather everything in a mere two weeks. I look forward to having a game with you and your group later this year. And if you'll wish to part with any of those fine weapons be sure to turn to me first. Once again, welcome!

Hadoken, Thanks for the welcome. And flectarn, whooo yeah, loved it since I first saw it in WWII footage. Great stuff, works wonders, looks cool... And there is a definate tactical reason we are wearing it too.... We are getting the flectarn suits, the German matching web gear and might even order a couple of pairs of the actual German military Jack Boots just to see how good they are.... Had our first practice tonight. Started with basic fire drills, how to properly hold and aim a weapon, and what stance to use when shooting. Saturday we will be working on moving and shooting. Also shooting from kneeling rest, prone, and standing positions. Then practicing on moving from station to station and popping targets. We are timing the course to see our development over the next few months. I swear, if I have to tie everyones trigger hand elbow down to their sides, they WILL learn how to properly hold their arm!!! We also had a one hour discussion regarding tactics, hand signals, communication, etc.... And where and how we are going to apply this in an airsoft environment. Once we get the basics down and then play a few games, we will modify what we do. We are all having a blast so far!!! Vitalis
