I know that a thread on this topic already exists, but I feel this merit's a new one. Mods, please go with me on this one.
Around 10:30 AM this morning myself and a friend decided to kill some time at Young's Army-Navy Surplus store in Kalamazoo. My friend Steve (kdogg) works there and basically manages the airsoft department. Upon entering I walked to the airsoft counter where Mr. Young (the owner) was standing and the following conversation was this (almost word for word):
Canto (John) - "Is Steve working?" Mr. Young - "You no bother him. He not here." Mr. Young - "You leave now..." (Points to door) Canto (John) - "I have to leave now?" Mr. Young - "Yes, you leave now." Canto (John) - "Umm, ok." (Walks toward door" Mr. Young - "You mother-fucker!" Mr. Young - "You bing-mao mother-fucker!" Canto (John) - "What?" Mr. Young - "You competition! You little kid! Mother-fucker! Bing-mao!" (Points to me) Canto (John) - "What is your problem?" Canto (John) - "So, I am competition? We sell the same stuff, but I make most of my money off stuff you don't even sell. I don't see what your problem is..." Mr. Young - "You leave my store!" Canto (John) - "Fine, won't be getting my business again. Fucking prick..." (Walks out with friend)
In my opinion this incident throws all of customer service to the wind. I can understand about me being competition and him not liking it; but calling a customer a "mother-fucker" is completely un-called for and very un-professional. Not to mention it's downright slander.
Talking with Steve (Kdogg) later that afternoon, I found out that the store has been having some issues with Tokyo Marui guns being siezed and held up in customs. Number 1, this isn't my problem. Number 2, That isn't my fault. Number 3, It's not any customers fault. Number 4, He shouldn't have acted that way to any customer at all.
According to Steve (Kdogg), Mr. Young doesn't like me because I have no respect for elders and that all Korean's have great respect for their elders. I should know better... Well, guess what!? The last time I was in Korea I was three months old... I'm almost 20 now.
I've been buying some of my guns, gas, bb's and camo from Young's Army Navy for about three years. I was planning on buying a full ACU set there. Not anymore. His piss-poor customer service has filled me to the brim. I'm done, and so is most of my team making purchases there for that matter.
I mean no offense to Steve (Kdogg) when typing all this. Steve does the Young's Army-Navy Surplus website (www.empireairsoft.com). My entire ordeal today has completely shifted my view of that store and that Korean gentleman.
But than again. what do I know? Because I'm just a "Bing-mao mother-fucker!"

JCE told me that a black couple was in their store looking at some stuff, and if I remember right, said something about it being expensive. Mr. Young then goes on to say "You both "Black jew!". That's pretty rediculous.

Well I guess Yong hit it on the nail head when he said you have a big mouth, damn man. What I told you on the phone was a conversation between me and you and you come here running your fucking mouth? Wtf?
First of all, the man is very old school. He is from Korea. The fact you mock him about his cultures and his personal family values makes you look like an ass to me.
You know the man hardly speaks English. He still doesn't know what he said wrong even after I asked him about it. Either way, it's his store and if he doesn't want you to shop there anymore, there is nothing I can really say or do about it.
You are the one claiming to be his competition, can you blame him for not wanting you to come in and scope him out? I'm not saying you ARE scoping but he *thinks* you are so to him thats all that matters.
You know he already had a problem with this right? Someone else who's name I won't mention came in there and took fucking pictures of his WALL of guns, then put them on his own web page to make it look like it was his shop. Some customer drives like 4 hours to this guys house and finds out he is running it out of his garage and it like what the fuck. Some how, and I don't know how the guy found his way into Young's store at a later point in time and tells Yong, hey this other guys got pictures of your walls on his web page. Yong and his sons check it out and sure the fuck, they find pictures of there walls.
I personally can't blame the man for not wanting people to come into his store bragging about being the competition. I know I wouldn't go to Wildcards shop and run my mouth about being his competition, or Bill's over at 21st Century. They know who I am, they don't need to hear my bullshit.
Also, the whole point, the whole reason I was hired was to redo there web store and handle the airsoft related business, yes I'm the manager. Also another reason Yong wanted me there is because his own son's were away at school or living elsewhere. He thought I could communicate with some of the customers better then he could. The language problem as Juggernaut put it is no longer an issue, I'm there 6 days a week til close unless I take a personal day.
Prices being high also won't be an issue anymore. I've already spoken to Yong about the prices and he has agreed to let me lower the pricing structure to match all the other US dealers and we will price match anyone who is an established US bases dealer.
Not to mention I've ordered a full line of accessories, replacement and upgrade parts. Along with which we will repair and upgrade. Things they have never offered before.
I don't know man, you are the one claiming to be his "competition" I have to wonder if any of this is a shot for one dealer to talk a little shit about another.

Yeah, thats definitly not cool man. I can understand being stressed about customs, because that IS a bitch like no other. But this whole thing is really uncalled for. Kind of like John getting on here and taking some shots at Yong's store and his up bringing isn't? The mans old school. JCE told me that a black couple was in their store looking at some stuff, and if I remember right, said something about it being expensive. Mr. Young then goes on to say "You both "Black jew!". That's pretty rediculous. Um I was there, that was a joke between him and regular customers. The whole point of the story was it was just funny. You had to be there. Nothing about that comment was rude, serious or made anyone mad. In fact it resulted in a laugh out of both parties involved. Again, these were regular customers there picking up something for there son in Iraq.

Steve,
First off. I don't care what you told me (no offense). Secondly, I don't care if he just lost ten grand on a poker game. You don't call any customer a motherfucker. If anyone here is a "bing mao" it's him.
I also have never directly chimed to him "I'm your competition." I understand he's overheard me talking when myself and my cohorts come in. But that doesn't equal going ape on me this morning either. It's not like I'm going all up in his face about running my own online store...
Mocking about culture and family values. Well, where to start... Those are my values and my culture too, which your comment makes me a bit irate about. Ass. First off, I havn't been in Korea for almost two decades. I'm adopted, I don't know the culture or the family values. But they are still mine by birth. So, lay off about this Steve.
I understand his English isn't too good and he's old school; but that still doesn't make it alright to go ape shit on a customer like that. I guess it comes down to, if he doesn't fully understand what he is saying, he shouldn't say it at all.
KDogg, I wouldn't consider this a "shot" for me to talk shit about another business. It's more of a personal matter now. Armory Airsoft aside, he's language is both offensive, rude, and abrasive, not to mention angering. Which comes down to why I made this whole thread in the first place.

I can assure you, you are not the first person the mans pissed off or offended, you will surely not be the last I never said you went up to him personally and said "I'm the competition" you did to me though and he heard it. I'm sorry you didn't get the customer service you felt you deserved. Again, that was Yong, not me. I'm sorry you don't want to buy ACU's anymore either and if you do change your mind, let me know and I'll take care of you personally. Again and I will repeat myself here, THIS IS PART OF THE REASON I was hired. If you need something, call me, pm me, send me a letter, carrier pigeon, whatever. If you don't want to give anymore of your hard earned money to the man, don't. Yong does his thing, I do mine. He is still my boss though and I still have to respect his wishes. I can assure you you will be pleased with the place once we've finished changing some prices around and other items in stock. Maybe you still won't like Yong but that's something I cant control I guess. Now shut the fuck up and give me a hug you "You bing-mao mother-fucker!"... If funny, but its not if you know what I mean

Whether he knew what he said or not, thats no excuse. He's been in the US for how long? a decade? He should know by now that calling anyone a 'mother fucker' is really extreme.
Like you said Steve, he has a history of offending customers and not really caring. This needs to change. You do help a lot with the language barrier and customer service, but in the end Mr. Yong is the owner and sets and example for his buisness.
