Ok.
So, I am doing a Hurricane metal body installation.
First of all the body looks great!
I've never taken an M4 type gun down before, but so far, with a little technical support via telephone from Munin it has gone smoothly. I am beginning to put pieces back together now.
The hurricane kit I have has a new spring for the charging handle and I wasn't quite sure of 2 things 1) Should I use it at all or stick with the stock spring 2) If I use it, it has two different ends. One end is an elogated hook that is open (thus you could capture the screw or the loop of the charging handle). The other end is a closed circle (as the stock spring is). If I use the new spring anyone have any thoughts as to which end to put where?
A slightly related question, do I still use the flimsy little piece of metal that goes behind the bolt cover?
Oh and one difference between the kit I have and the one Jacko described is that the small hole above the threaded barrel already seems to have the little shiny steel rod in it, and it seems to be fixed in there somehow.
So far so good...

The closed circle end of the spring gets affixed to the charging handle. The open end goes around the screw that is screwed into the underisde of the upper reciever.

Thanks Jacko...
And the inner bolt cover piece? Do you have that installed or not?

The fake bolt? Yep, and it still works, which I heard may or may not on some HurricanE bodies.

Ok, I got the upper receiver "accessory" items all back together and working. Fake bolt and all.
One pesky little thing that just occurred to me, how do I get the metal bottom of the trigger guard off the plastic body? It looks like it uses a roll pin.
Also, what kind of glue or other method would you recommend for putting on the dummy fire selector?

Oh, the trigger guard 'slat' uses a roll pin, but you'll notice that one of them is a plunger type, where you push in one side and it'll depress into the pin body. Then you just pull down and it'll swing free. Superglue works well.

Thanks yet again Jacko -
More differences between the Hurricane kit I recieved and Jacko's. As far as I can tell the ONLY hop-up part not included was the hop up sleeve (or bucking).
My little plastic baggie had the following in it: Hop-up body Hop-up "lever" arm (the thing that actually depresses the bucking) metal pin to fix hop-up "lever" arm little spring that goes on the hop-up "lever" arm 3 little gears 2 retaining clips (used to retain two of the three gears) 1 screw The little plastic piece that retains the hop-up unit on the inner barrel The larger spring that pushes the hop-up off the upper receiver towards the nozzle on the mechbox
<edit> Oh damnit... I just realized what the "nubbin" was. Why in the heck didn't they include that part with the hop-up? It can't possibly have any real cost.... Now I have to take apart the whole damn thing to add the nubbin </edit>

Can I just tap the trigger guard slate roll pin out? Any recommendations on the best way removing it? Or what tools to use?

Yeah, you can just tap it out, that's no problem.
I'm wondering if we should compile a complete M4 takedown guide. One that could take a full gun down to individual peices.

That would prolly be a great idea Jacko, when i took my m4 apart, i looked for a while and finally gave up when i found a sr 16 guide. Even though they are pretty close it still doesnt tell you how to do the stock. And the only decent guide i found was picture by picture. Some writing and explanation would have been nice.

I am certainly up for working on a guide with both pictures and text. I don't have an "normal" m4, I've got the SR-16 variety. But most things (other than the stock) should be similar.
I'll commence taking photos of the broken down gun.

I think this is my final question on M-4 dissassembly:
To get the firing selector switch off I need to get at the little screw on the inside of the receiver that holds the fire selector on. To get to that screw it appears that I need to remove the dummy fire select plate on the opposite side of the receiver. This piece of plastic appears to be glued on. Any suggestions for removing it? Thanks
Sharpshooter -
What seems to be your problem with the motor?
Are you getting "hung up" on the motor wires?
Awhile back Munin did a good job describing how to route the wires. The black one goes up along the back of the grip (the part of the grip closest to the stock).
The red wire enters the grip and immediately bends to go along the plastic face that it entered through and then goes up along the back of the grip next to the black wire.

Mite, do you have an angle screwdriver? The type that has a phillips and a flat head on either end but the ends are bent 90*? That's what would seem to be the best answer.
