I've had a FAMAS for 3 months and I am very pleased with its stock performance. High ROF and a decent accuracy. You can also mod M16 magazines to fit into the FAMAS which means you caould add all sorts of different capcitys of mags. I just finished a paint job on the FAMAS but haven't put it back together yet. The bipod is cool but if i was to buy another FAMAS I would buy the SV version cause I like the larger trigger gaurd adn you can add the bipod to that gun with out modding. YOu can't add the larger trigger gaurd to the F1 from what I can tell.

there is a mod to do it, as both FAMAS's are made from the same casts. all they do, is take out the handgrip, and the trigger guard, and they place on the SV type. it is really rare though.

As Harley said, the FAMAS is a great gun. I have seen and fired his. The Paint Job looks great, and as long as you don't mind being a little back heavy the feel of the gun is ReALLY good. If your going to get an Armalite, go with the M4. It is definetaly worth it to spend 30-40 dollars more to get a lot better features such as a working charging handle. and removable carry handle. The M4 also features a bit more metal than the XM...

I own an f1 and would reccomend it to anyone who can deal with a couple of factors:
The looks: you either like them or you dont. if you dont, dont get the gun. if you do you'll love yourself everytime you open the box.
Upgradeability: Famas starts out with a high ROF and is pretty accurate. I put a 150% spring in mine, which is as high as i would reccomend going. accuracy is excellent and range has improved immensely. the ROF is about the same as any other stock TM gun now. You wont turn this gun into a sniper system
other then those two points the famas is just as good if not better then a lot of the other guns out there. very durable and well balanced gun (cqb or outdoors thanks to bullpup)
although i dont own an m4 i have talked to people concerning the xm, every person i have ever talked too says to spend the extra money and get the m4a1.

Who's XM177 did I get a chance to check out at one of Viking's events? My god man, that thing was so light it made the Super 9 feel like a rock solid work of airsoft art.
Before actually seeing/holding the XM177 I thought it would have been a great cheaper alternative to the M4. Glad I was able to check it out though because I can now honestly say the gun is VERY disappointing. It may shoot like any other stock AEG, but it looks and feels like the cheap water pistols I used to buy when I was younger.
The only FAMAS I've seen around these parts was rather beat up/used and abused, but it still felt a heck of a lot better than the XM177 did.
Still...both guns do have thier fans, and both perform pretty much the same in stock form so it's really up to you. All I can really give you is the info above and hopefully you'll make a decision you're happy with in the end.
For more info on the guns in question I suggest you head on over to some of the larger airsoft forums and do some research there.
Good luck.

I myself have never fired a FAMAS, so i can not comment on it, however, i have fired a XM. I really have to agree with Hado on this one, to be quite frank, the gun felt like a genuine piece o' crap when i picked it up It probably weighs a fraction of a lb or less more than my pistol, and just plain felt like it was gonna break . Hado, i think it may have been at OP: Foreign Agression when Mikecatt(or something ) brought his. Anyway, i own a m4a1 and absolutly love it. Well mine is heavy as crap now with the m203 and all that crap on it , it was really a good hefty weight for a stock TM aeg and felt like it could take a little bit of a beating,( as much as a piece of plastic can take ). So, if you like the looks and style of the XM, definitly pop for the M4. Oh, and Sick, you keep thinkin' that ;D

It was MikeCatt13's XM at that game. I wasn't there, i'm just a genius (did i spell that right?)
I'm going with Hado on this one as well. The FAMAS is probably the most comfortable gun i've ever held, possibly rivaled by the G36c. I know ergonomics depends more on the person than anything else, but it's something to be considered.
I think the heaviest part of the XM may be either the battery or the mag. It's really cheap feeling. Better than the XM springers, but not by much.
The ROF on the FAMAS is phenominal, TM should have stuck with that version 1 gearbox, Harely's FAMAS has the best ROF i've seen out of a stock gun running on an 8.4v battery.
The XM's is of course, average. nothing special about it.

I think the heaviest part of the XM may be either the battery or the mag. HeHe! I couldn't agree more. Sickpointe's XM177 does happen to look rather good with all the new accessories he's slapped onto it. I'm sure it brought the weight up nicely too. (Post a pic if ya can Sickpointe!) Here's some more info on the XM177 in this XM177 vs M4A1 comparison.

*Pulls at suspenders like fancy business man* Here's a section with some nice shots, just click the thumbnail to enlarge the pics: www.airsoftohio.com/phpBB/viewfile.php?CatID=4&FileCat=gallery&FileType=Image&FileSubCat=237Mods if this slows the thread down at all or something feel free to edit my post and turn the images into links. Edit- Oh here's the externals on my little room broom: Not including my internal upgrades the stuff you see is a Angs 40 x 120mm Suppressor, a shortened inner barrel, a shortened metal flash hider, new metal iron sights, a 30mm White Tale red dot site, GG&G AR15 flashlight mount, SureFire 6P light and a 3 point sling. There's other stuff I have for it that the public doesn't know... muahahahahaha...

I agree that the M4 is a better choice over the XM. If you have the extra money, the M4 will be worth it.

The FAMAS is also well balenced with the battery being in front and the mech box in the back. BTW I should have pics up tonight of my new PJ.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm still working on getting the money, but plan on having it by sometime in summer [and be playing]. I've already got a springer m9, but thats pretty much only good for my basement combat and duels.
